for some reason we were doing the original Du Maurier story in English class and I suppose it was a sort of 'compare and contrast' thing. Around the same time they also traumatised us with Day of the Triffids (fear of plants) and horrifically bleak nuclear war film Threads (scarred for life).

they showed us The Birds in school, and for about a year I flinched every time a crow flew over.
