Yeah, "Hey" by the Pixies does that for me. Came upon it at a time in my life where that melancholy fit perfectly, so it sticks.

Fully half of that would be JRPGs.
I love a good challenge in a game, but I think people should play a game however it makes them happy. Life's short, why make yourself miserable, you know?
Yeah otherwise you woulda clunked to the side of the machine like the tin-man.
Been trying to make a sourdough starter and the difficult part is that I just don't have anywhere in my apartment climate controlled that's gonna keep it as warm as it wants to be. So, this might be a drawn-out process.
Your son sounds like a gem
Oh yeah, sooooo much good story stuff to learn! Enjoy the journey!
This seems like it would give half the current administration a full-blown stroke.
Yeah my friends think it's weird that I'll play Silent Hill to decompress.
Consider this your sign to take a break from whatever you're doing, and pick up some creative task that you've had in the back of your mind for a while.
Hope you're having a blast!
The internet has replaced our useful social connections with less useful parasocial ones.
If we want change and revolution, it starts by organizing and creating community, especially deeply connected local communities fighting for their unique needs, instead of taking marching orders.
End.
Point three, which is that the sort of community connections and networks that could band together and create change have been cracked apart. Revolution is the work of groups of people, and we've so pushed this individualist nonsense that it's hard to find engaged communities. Plus...

Second, we've taught people that revolutions are brought about by singular, unique heroes, rather than collections of regular people banding together for change--often with a simple motive of not wanting their shit fucked with. But these two combine with...

First, we've been spoon-fed the lie that "legitimate" revolution is peaceful and, above all, doesn't upset people or make anyone uncomfortable. Then...

Saw someone asking why we haven't seen any kind of "revolution" with all the crazy shit going on, and figured I'd make a thread about it. I'll say the last point is the most important, but the other two are necessary for building to it.

been replaced with further siloing and disconnection for "convenience." Then, the internet came along and replaced our useful social connections with less useful parasocial ones.

we've simultaneously been taught that revolution is the purview of singular unique heroes as our communities have been cracked apart. Thing is, the "hero" narrative is bullshit and it's true, engaged communities that bring about change and revolution. But those effective, engaged communities have...
To answer the last question there:
There's a few reasons. We haven't seen any revolution or revolutionary action because, for the last 50+ years, we've been spoon-fed the lie that "legitimate" revolution is peaceful and doesn't make people uncomfortable. But more importantly...
This is a great thread, you should read it.
This whole thread is fantastic, but I wanted to chime in here and say I loved that this idea felt reflected in your Ancillary series.
(Insert rant about how "correct grammar" is often not a question of good usage but a matter of displaying the correct class signifier. I do not have the brains for that rant.)
Today I heard about an interesting book on a public radio station show, then when I got home I went to the website for my local public library and requested it. I'll have it tomorrow for free.
This is precious. We must protect this.
Congratulations!
Only if you get me one.
My old person trait is that I believe single player games should still be able to be played without requiring an internet connection.
My old person trait is that websites should always work in a web browser instead of forcing me to download an app to access it. And the app should be optional.
I was a kid in the early 2000s. Thanks to my dad I was a little more aware and as against it as a kid could be, but I remember people losing their shit about that opinion. I'm happy to see things change.
Gorgeous!
