Grok? The favourite AI tool of misogynists and racists. Bit beneath you, I would have thought. Still, this post will probably do well on X.

Today’s #MessierMonday object is M-27, the Dumbbell Nebula.

As telescopes improved in the 19thC, astronomers classified objects into planets and moons, stars and clusters, clouds of dust, and began to think about galaxies. But there was a group of objects like M-27 that they didn’t understand.

A month on from my previous sunset photo. Venus is moving on around her orbit and is closer to the horizon. Beautiful earthlight shines on the moon.

Like corduroy flares, moderate centrism is not very fashionable right now.

That’s better than me in *some* respects - the company I work for didn’t offer any maternity package. The money I got was basic support from the government. Some big companies here will offer 12 months full pay which is dreamy

Well actually you can take 12 months off here but you only get statutory maternity pay for 39 weeks. It’s ok in European standards but not the best.

What can I say, another reason why the U.S. sucks? 😬

We’re one step closer to understanding the sperm whale ‘alphabet’ Scientists are learning that sperm whales communicate in ways that may mirror human language.

We have no business sharing the world with whales. My second favourite creatures after equines 🐋

Techniques de Randonnée Équestre de Compétition - Wikipedia

To be fair, it’s not well known outside equestrian circles! Essentially obstacles made with cones, poles etc you have to navigate horse round in certain way to test your partnership. See phase 3 on this:

Archive Research, Photography & Digitisation I offer archive research and document photography at The National Archives and the Imperial War Museum, alongside digitisation of privately held material. As a military historian, I regularly work …

As my maternity leave comes to an end, a reminder that I’m now offering an archive photography service primarily for museums/archives in the south east England (IWM, TNA, BL etc etc) to help make ends meet. Details below:

My favourite thing*, is when people who are not military historians, write books about something that there are already 100 million books about, and they become best sellers and the press are all over them.

*something that really pisses me off
