My 2026 Boston Marathon results: 2:54:02.
2026 Boston Marathon finishers medal sitting upon a wood table.
Told a friend today’s race would be either a DNF or a PR. Glad it was the latter.
Been ill for weeks. Decided to run this last-minute and was sure I’d hit a wall or cramp up down the stretch. But it just felt good all the way to Boylston. Guess I’m running Boston again next year. 😎
John is absolutely right to see the “infinite patience” for Khan’s failed EdTech creative destruction & the closure of Hampshire as linked.
EdTech has always been dependent on using grades as the foundation for A/B testing, behavioral modification (which they pretend is learning), & tokenization.
Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.
We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

A good day to remind people that, around 2000 or so, Edward Said began routinely telling journalists and editors in his interviews that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory was now the longest in modern world history, after having surpassed the Japanese occupation of Korea.
Happening now: Protest outside Flock Safety headquarters in West Midtown.
I see the technofeudal overlords are again promoting UBI.
The opposition needs to expand its imagination beyond the premises of basic income. We’re careening toward state subsidization of monopoly rent-seeking.

»Fascism is not just the defense or counterrevolution of property but also the claiming of a right to affectively participate in the abjection of the dangerous element« @danielloick.bsky.social und @vethompson.bsky.social
It’s been overshadowed by Venezuela and especially Iran, but the deadly boat bombing campaign is still going, even though:
-There’s no war
-The US wasn’t attacked or under threat
-Drug traffickers aren’t terrorists
-These may not be traffickers
-It’s blatantly illegal
-With no clear strategy either
Think about this: The leader of the Senate Democrats just voted against 85% of his caucus all to keep sending bulldozers to Israel, so it can continue to demolish Palestinian and Lebanese people's homes.
On this third year anniversary of the war in Sudan we woke up to the devastating news that our friend and comrade Muzan Al Neel has passed away. She was a brilliant revolutionary thinker, writer and organizer and a wonderful human.

I want to live in a world where schools aren’t held hostage by bondholders.
Saw another doc yesterday who says it’s not covid. Who knows. This morning’s little race-pace tune-up run was still harder than it should’ve been. Monday will be fun. 😁
F-ing depraved. The IDF edited a photo of the journalist they assassinated and made it look like he was wearing a Hezbollah uniform. They explicitly state that it is legal in Israel to murder journalists. The entire Israeli state is a criminal enterprise.
Turns out this is long covid. Mild, but still. Locked in an existential battle with myself over how hard, or even if, I should run the Boston Marathon next Monday. 😔
And the ICE agents.
I love the Atlanta airport. I really, actually do. Except for the smooth jazz.

ATLANTA! I’m coming your way May 20, to chop it up with THE Donovan X. Ramsey (who wrote the gorgeous WHEN CRACK WAS KING) at Charis Books charisbooksandmore.com/event/2026-0...

First time on the campus of William & Mary. Beautiful grounds.
These buildings represent so much hidden labor, past and present. Thinking about the urgency of VA’s public sector collective bargaining push and the need to include academic workers.

BREAKING: JURY FINDS PROFESSOR CARAVELLO NOT GUILTY!
While some justice was restored by the jury’s decision, the beatings, the surveillance, and the trauma that John and others across the state and nation have had to endure cannot be ignored. #ICEOUT

Sam Altman has a new plan to make money from generative AI: he wants intelligence to be treated like water or electricity — and we’ll all have to pay him for it.
His chatbots are degrading people’s ability to retain information and think critically. Now he wants to sell smarts back to us.
My students are old enough to remember when “Democratic officials were looking around and wondering” how much repressive brutality and callous dismissal they could direct at campus antiwar protests.
it's officially out! :)
WE DID IT!
Our illegal union @uam-umd.bsky.social is a lot less illegal today. 12,000 contingent faculty in MD just won the right to collectively bargain. Life-changing win for teachers and students. Only happened bc thousands of people worked together to beat our bosses in the statehouse.
