Great panel with @martin.social & @guypo.com at State of Open last week, we talked about open-source vs. open-weights - shoutout to @samj.net, making AI accessible and efficient and how to integrate AI for software development. Thanks @openuk.bsky.social for organising this event.

Oh cool it’s back… it was missing before (from North Vancouver)
Sorry I know this place is not for that for many but I thought it was funny.
cleaning up the mess left by the OSI on Open Source AI for the moment
I’m sure I saw you on there earlier tonight…
FSD improved very significantly when they switched from symbols to neutral nets earlier this year right after I bought my model Y with FSD.
Yes there’s that too
I was surprised, but the devil’s in the details — they go fast (and tend to be driven by people who go fast), and are very heavy.
G’day! Good to see you escaped that other dumpster fire 🔥
And sure, if you go by raw numbers of users using Bluesky Social PBC-owned PDSes instead, it's like 99.999% of them, but that reflects the fact that most people don't give a fuck about the tech details and want it to Just Work. If someone else started a PDS that Just Worked I'm sure it'd get takers.
Very cool resource, thanks!
"bluesky is not yet decentralized"
it is! anyone can move their data to their own server. it requires some technical expertise right now, but we'll make this process easier.
and we expect other companies to offer this as a service too — so it won't require technical expertise in the future
Yes it’s refreshing, but could the same thing not happen here in 20 years? It’s in theory decentralised but in practice it’s not, and what % of users need to be off the “main” site for this to be the reality? If outages take out 90%, is it still up? Will it be easy to migrate? Will people do it? 🤔
These appointments prove that insisting people achieve and be promoted based on “merit” was never really their real concern.
Is it though? I know it supports AT protocol, but it seems like auth/DMs/etc. are still centralised? I guess the outage took us all out because almost all of us are on their servers, but I heard about federation opening up a year or so ago now and haven’t seen any obvious signs of it?
Incidentally I just picked up my third ski season pass and plan to ski my ass off this winter, literally, so In now have the opposite problem.
I didn’t know that was a thing… wonder if I have it too? I think I just need to lose a few kilos, so my dead-in-the-shade-in-six-hours number is probably closer to 33/34 than 35 (or 36/37 for the locals)?
The plural of anecdote is not data, but I left Singapore for Canada after a single episode of heat stress (I was denied access to an air conditioned mall because I didn’t have a mask and the pharmacy was in said mall). I’ve always been aware of climate issues, but this really made an impact on me.
1000x this but Twitter’s early team was pretty cool too, especially considering the tools they had to work with at the time, and we still ended up getting collectively shafted, so what’s to stop a recurrence in 20 years if we opt for centralised services again instead of decentralised like email?
That’s still a lot of kids
Don’t be the same dusty ass you were on Twitter. Post your hobbies, your passions, talk with each other, follow people back. There is no reason for someone with like 78k followers to be following a handful of people. Don’t act like you’re an elitist dipshit here. We are nice here, to each other.
From here (logged in or incognito) it looks like you’re responding to a “Blocked post”, which is suspect to say the least.
Pay peanuts 🥜, get monkeys 🙈
Oh, wait…
My favourite is Apple Intelligence telling me I have 5 people at my door when I missed the last 5 ring notifications.
AGI is here.
Maybe.

I think it can be done, but should not come in the form of a second, conflicting definition like #OSAID.
We could update the existing Open Source Definition in the “completeness” dimension — it’s already strong on the “openness” axis — by adding a sentence explicitly extending coverage to data.
