A 1 km long accelerator nestled between Alcubierre rings, cooled by glowing radiator spines, protected by dielectric mirrors and Whipple shields, propelled by a DT fusion torch.

Amalthea is a moon of Jupiter, the third closest to the planet at 181,365 km away (about 2.6 Jupiter radii from the centre of the planet). At just 250 km across at its widest point - its shape is not spherical - Amalthea is small, likely a captured asteroid. This image portrays a potential exploration party on the surface of Amalthea. From there, the globe of Jupiter spans an incredible 46 degrees of arc across the sky. The dark oval seen on the backdrop of Jupiter is the shadow cast by its moon Io.

For the final day, 24, of #ArtAdventCalendar, I present this illustration which I call Exploration of Amalthea. The latter is a very small moon of Jupiter in a very close orbit. Jupiter would fill half the sky seen from here!

How far back in time can you understand English? An experiment in language change

If you liked this experiment, I published a full piece today in the same vein: a text that gets 100 years older with every section, from a modern blog post to a medieval chronicle.

It's a single story spanning 1000 years of English. See how far you get.

trying to convince #sciencefiction #authors that more and more people listen to fiction and that a podcast is the best place to grab additional readers. Any ideas?
Also, “Podcast audiences grew to 584.1 million globally, rising 6.83% since 2024.” Just saying.

A person is a spacesuit stands in a red rocky valley. In front of them is a large metallic, futuristic building. In the background a planet is visible in the sky as well a as a small shuttlecraft. There are several structures in the distance.

Hello all, we are a week out from #submissions opening. I would appreciate it if you could share this with #sciencefiction #authors that you may know, or not, I'm not picky. We are looking as many points of view as possible, though we do require that the author of the work be human. Thanks!

Painted back in 2021, this piece I titled "Nanny". Just a normal picture of a little girl in the Scottish lowlands watched over by her faithful hound--Fido.

Myself, a white man in glasses with a beard wearing a t-shirt with a Stargate and a pyramid. I'm holding a book called Disgraced Return of the Kap's Needle showing a skull inside a space helmet. Behind me there's a bookshelf with several books.

Nebula Awards are now open for SFWA members! ☄️ This year, I'd be very humbled and delighted if members considered my novella, Disgraced Return of the Kap's Needle, in their ballots.

Drop me a DM if you want a copy for consideration!
