I like how this one turned out. This final page forced me to think about pacing for that final narration box and I was worries it wouldn't work, but I think it did!

What I realized when I was lettering all this was that sfx and words do have combining effects on each other when you read. Balancing that took tact and I think I did okay. Lemme know what y'all think!

This is pretty much the same thing, but I wanted to keep the order. Enjoy!

Final Pages! Nothing special on the lettering, just some default typeface and I just winged the spacing. I'm done with it.

SKADOOSH! I had a lot of fun adding these monochromatic panel affects to highlight the action and feel. I think it came off not just strongly but also comicbooky. If that's a word.

Rawr! MORE COLORS. I tried a few ideas and am unsure if it hit as much as I'd hoped or not... idk.

Just do what you can as much as you can. Quantity MAKES quality. You're talent and improvement are inevitable!

Haha thanks! They're just for selections tho, I'll post the full colors soon though!

Clip Studio's select color gamut is so much more useful when character flats match throughout a whole page. That way you can quickly select all a character throughout a page and adjust it all at once.

An explorer walks along a crumbling bridge surrounded by stars and blue fog. In the distance there are large structures fading into the fog, and covered in stars.

While it was a difficult climb, the old city was never hard to find. Scavengers need only look for the static lines of captive stars.

ometimes I try to make sense of even the flats. It works both in favor and against for several reasons, but one thin it does I like it that it keeps the characters separate.

These are what I've come to know as flats (or selection flats) where you color everything separately without concern for the final colors. I think they look cool and I don't see this shown off too often.

This time I opted to only focus on the elements in each panel so that I could get a better sense of spacial composition in the environment. This so far is my favorite page.

till playing around with some effects for the tones. @kutielee suggested I use more contrast, so I gave that a whirl here. Not bad...

This page I tried out some soft brushing along with the tones to try and capture more detail that I was planning on using. Setting it in tones should help me understand the color direction more.
I'm not completely satisfied...

I like to do this tonal pass before colors to check and see how value helps or hinders a composition. This allows me to see and change the focus of a scene if necessary and then I can color accordingly. It's another tool I like to use to help build the storytelling.Tones 1/4

This was my most ambitious page and rightfully so. It's the payoff of all the moments before. The new element of challenge here was inking lightning bolts. I wanted them to feel real while maintaining the energy. I'm happy with it.

In this four page script I challenged myself to create a typical three act action while adding a page's worth of tension to help build up to the conclusion. It was my first attempt in this format and I learned a lot.

Finding enough detail to use while trying to illustrate motion was trickier than just using the same amount everywhere else. Too little and you lose the sense of form too much and you can lose the "blur" entirely to a big black inky mess. It was fun finding what worked. Inks 2/4

Learning inks digitally for this. Usually I spend a lot of time and microns doing this kind of work on paper, but my scanner finally died and that motivated me to finally learn the digital way! Inks 1/4
