The dev container spec file is also a nice abstraction over Docker files! I also used them a lot when I was at 360info, so we have a pretty big selection of reproducible analyses with dev containers there that mostly all follow the same pattern: github.com/360-info/rep...

… and if the cloud resources aren’t enough, they can install Docker and run the same environment locally!
I use them to run workshops! So handy to be able to skip all the setup — if everyone has a GitHub account, you can give them a link to start the learning environment in a Codespace, and if they break it they can chuck it and start again…
Yeeees, love dev containers!
This is a very big life update, and has been a plan I have been working on for several years. I'm pretty stoked tbh.
Yes yes yes! Congrats Tim, can’t edit to see what you do! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
CSS nesting is now Baseline 🎉
Write nested selectors directly in CSS — just like Sass, but natively.

If you use GitHub (especially if you pay for it!!) consider doing this *immediately*
Settings -> Privacy -> Disallow GitHub to train their models on your code.
GitHub opted *everyone* into training. No matter if you pay for the service (like I do). WTH

I’m generally ambivalent about Liquid Glass, but if a real bubble meter sloshed around like this I would be quite frustrated
Can confirm they start good and get worse with every bite 😆
Given February is the hottest month of the year for the Coral Sea (averages 28.8°C for 1991-2020), and it’s currently at an all time record of 29.5°C, you really don’t want tropical cyclones going overhead.

It’s kind of astonishing how good the Kobo’s @myscript.com-powered notebook experience is given these devices are like a third the price of a Remarkable. Genuinely did not think the hardware would be able to handle it
Also how has your experience with S7 been? I haven’t tried it yet!
new package alert! {tidychain} is a #rstats packaged inspired by the below authors experience in showing how an excel file was changed / manipulated by looking at the underlying xml files to prove fraud in research

This is SUCH a cool package — I didn’t realise Excel files stored this kind of data!
We had some great sport entries to last year’s Closeread contest — get in for a great job opportunity here!
So when thousands of women (and children) were being duplicated--including in non-consensual AI porn--it was no big deal. But it took "only a 15-sec clip" of these two famous white men to draw outrage and fear. Gotcha. Cool cool.
If left unchecked, we are racing towards a world where searching for "struggling to breastfeed" makes baby formula more expensive for you in your local supermarket (that's one dystopian example anyway)
Anyone familiar with time series animation in QGIS? I have a series of GeoTIFFs with valid (I think) timestamps in the metadata that aren’t recognized as timestamps. And the QGIS tool to automatically assign timestamps thinks a month is always 30 days. 🤷♂️
So I’m at something of a loss.
Try it out with Quarto 1.9.18 pre-release ;)
Very keen to play with the newly merged Typst book support in @quarto.org! Thanks, Quarto team! prerelease.quarto.org/docs/books/
We are organising a conference!

I should say this model has brought Mildura back down to 50 now
Fingers crossed!
Screenshot of Windy, with Mildura in Australia selected for a point forecast. With the ACCESS C-VT model selected, temperatures of 52 degrees Celsius are shown at 4 PM.
ACCESS-C VT has Mildura touching 52 °C, but I have to assume this is an outlying model! Is the hourly output that Windy displays a temporal interpolation, or does it actually run at hourly timesteps?
The highest temperature ever recorded in Victoria is 48.8°C at Hopetoun on 7 Feb 2009.
The forecast for Tuesday at Ouyen Victoria is 49°C.
