The forest is the system: Not the individual trees. Most people try to build resilience by making themselves bigger, stronger, more independent. They stockpile resources, they build higher walls, they go it alone. HOWEVER, We The People are stronger together. Unite!

This is a sentiment you hear a lot from now-elderly people who grew up without a lot of material comforts. Their perceptual and material worlds were pretty well aligned! Now we basically all live in the perceptual world of the wealthy. It’s hard to imagine anyone not knowing what they don’t have.

Every once in a while, I like to watch this video clip of Joe Biden comforting a grieving Parkland family to remind myself what compassionate leadership looks like.

This is the stuff I truly miss.
