I work as a children’s librarian on the weekends and these are a few of my recent favorite moments:
“Can you help me find a comic book about a kid getting a haircut?”
“Excuse me! I want a book about friends!”

The wealthy and powerful have always and will always try to weaken and eliminate the arts. Our rebellion is to make art anyway. Enjoy art anyway. Attend the theater. Laugh with comedians. Read books. Go to concerts. Watch movies. Enrich ourselves with diverse ideas. Relish art.

@alixeharrow.bsky.social has achieved what I thought impossible: a poignant, relevant, AND satisfying fantasy/romance/adventure novel, that is ALSO a believable and enjoyable time loop. This is a groundbreaking masterpiece. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

When they close I will make do with the alternatives: the online options and the pricy local fabric boutiques. But, god will I miss meandering those aisles, molesting bolts of polyester blends to find something that will sort of work for the project I sort of know how to do.

When we lose Joann Fabrics what we are losing is the privilege to create bad art, to fumble through learning a new craft with cheap materials, to keep going back for more because we fucked up the first few tries.
