In 2024, Premier Wakeham said abandoning Memorial University and telling it to 'go fix your problems' was 'not good enough.' These are his own words, on the record with CBC. Budget-2026 is his chance to prove he believed them.

"It is now time for a federal-provincial strategy on public postsecondary education: essential infrastructure in this nation-building era."

Memorial Matters: "I have been asked to help two community groups, The Legion and The Corner Brook Museum and Archives to assist in interviewing older community members with special historic and cultural knowledge so that we can preserve their experiences for future generations. This is not part of my research but a donation of my time and skills to help my community. I am privileged and honoured to have helped preserve the legacy of World War II, Korean War and members who served in several peace-keeping missions. I have a special skillset in conducting oral history interviews honed over 30 years of professional experience. My job and my profession helps my community." - Faculty member

Memorial Matters: "Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook was a turning point in my academic journey, especially as a mature student returning to school. After previous experiences at larger university campuses where lecture halls held 200+ students, I found Grenfell to be a completely different and far more rewarding environment. The smaller class sizes created a more intimate and engaging learning experience, where discussions felt meaningful and participation came naturally. What stood out most was the opportunity to truly connect with professors. I never felt like just another number on a roster; instead, I felt seen, supported, and encouraged. That level of accessibility made a huge difference in my confidence and success. Grenfell provided not just an education, but a community where I could thrive, grow, and rediscover my academic potential." - Student

Memorial Matters: "As a librarian, I make learning and discovery accessible to all. I support our newest students as they begin their studies and work on their first research projects. I work with our seasoned researchers as they navigate complex webs of information. I help our community members make sense of the shifting information landscapes around them, exploring everything from generative AI to the news and social media.

Our librarians and archivists across the university enable and encourage hands-on history making, inspire the creation of new art and literature, inform scientific development, and champion critical thinking. I am proud to be among them, shaping a flourishing learning community and contributing to the knowledge-making and creative expression that define our province." - Chelsea Humphries, Librarian faculty member (MUN Grenfell Campus)

Provinces across Canada are investing in post-secondary education. Ontario. Saskatchewan. Meanwhile, Newfoundland and Labrador’s only university faces cuts, fewer courses, and larger classes. The NL budget is coming. This government has a clear choice to make. #WeAreMUN

These are the kinds of stories we keep hearing.
A course that changed someone’s life.
A reason someone stayed in Newfoundland and Labrador.
A degree that helped build a career, a business, a future.
A hope that the next generation gets the same chance. 1/2

Demand for university education in Ontario is only growing, but funding is not keeping pace with the national average and cuts to student aid won't help Ontario families struggling with affordability. Read our budget response: ocufa.on.ca/press-releas...
