omg breadcrum looks lovely! been looking for a power-user bookmarking solution just like this ✨
The phrase "high-trust society" is interesting
As a rough & incomplete model, western society, with its ad-based media, has constructed a worry- or anxiety-machine, which incentivizes feeding worries to people
If you trust institutions enough, though, you may simply decide to trust that...
websites should look like this
if you want a google-like experience without any of the junk, I’d recommend @kagi.com — it’s paid, but is totally worth it if you’re sick of google
if you’re looking to experiment a bit, perplexity.ai is a great next-gen ai powered search engine — think if chatgpt and google had a baby
100% agree! I haven’t been able to stick to using a dumb phone myself for that reason
our positioning for the phone-like thing we’re building is that it should be “smarter than a light phone, but dumber than an iphone”. the goldilocks zone lies somewhere in between — hope we can find it!
though totally understand this might not be representative of your experience with the daylight as it stands today!
all I can say to that i hope you stick with us, cause there’s a lot of exciting stuff in the pipeline coming v soon :))
although one area where dumb devices can be incredibly effective is with kids. there’s a whole generation of parents who’d rather not raise ipad babies and is looking for healthier alternatives.
— and kids have no choice when it comes to using a dumb device, cause the parents are the ones in charge
here’s a good example of one of those augmenting workflows which you wouldn’t see in a dumb device —
x.com/daylightco/s...
traditional dumb phones only subtract — which i agree has v limited impact if you’re already addicted.
but our thinking is to not only subtract the crap, but add + augment where current tools are severely limited (ie. kindle / remarkable)
so far we’ve only built (1), and (2) is under development.
— without (2), i definitely understand how it does feel like a dumb device, but any focus / distraction benefits are ancillary.
tbh, the goal was never to build a distraction free device! the main goals were:
1) build a display that feels like a magical piece of paper
2) build the best software for knowledge work — a space for your best thinking / deep work
🙏🌻✨
Field Companions are everyday objects modified to hold memory and share their perspective of our environments. Touching your phone to its soul initiates a 1-min audio memory from the moment and location it was found.

The deep goal of bluesky is to decentralize the social internet so that every individual controls their experience of it rather than having it be controlled by 5 random billionaires. Everyone thinks they signed up for a demuskified twitter...we actually signed an exciting and bizarre experiment.
terrapunk is a thing and it's actually quite good!
resolving a lot of the issues with solarpunk: "greenwashed socialism", anti-capitalist, anti-nuclear, anti-markets, "pro-blanketing-mountains-with-solar-panels"

Screen shot of thinking with moss front page.
Why moss? We embrace moss' ambiguous, downtrodden place in botanic history as a starting point for developing questions of colonial worldviews, systems of classification, and representational challenges and opportunities.
Thinking With Moss is a project I've been working on for the past few years w/ @eayers0.bsky.social & @aansari86.bsky.social.
In collab w/ NYBG, we explore the digitization of botanic collections, and the invisible or under attended histories of the natural sciences.

What if Truchet tiles were produced with differential growth?
I gave a talk at Handmade Seattle last year about why I think software gets complicated (spoiler: it's not laziness). www.youtube.com/watch?v=czzA...
This is something I've thought about for years and observed up close both in commercial and research contexts, so I hope you enjoy.
Libraries are absolutely the best places on earth.
ah, Neo4j!! excited to finally have a viable alternative
can’t share much on the details yet — but it’s def on the roadmap!

Witnessing a sunrise from space has to be one of the most humbling experiences.
we're in the early stages of building our calm phone!
we're working on it ✨
been curious about @surrealdb.com, esp for PKM / knowledge-graph stuff — how's the DX been so far? any stability and performance issues?
also ended up making incoming texts feel more like status updates than actual real people talking to me — really took the actionability out of replying to messages
