The next miniature crochet sculpture is an orange sea turtle.
So I made her after I saw a documentary about how fishing nets especially ghost nets affect sea turtles. Unfortunately they get tangled up and get hurt or worse can’t swim to the surface anymore to breath.

The tail is big and curly the side and back fin are small. Three orange threads are coming out of his mouth. One is very small, the second is a bit longer and the third is long. They are going left over the head of the fish.

This is the 6th fish I made. He is a bit bigger than the previous ones. I used the blue thread again and orange for the highlights, it was good to work this way. The thread is from the ghost ropes again.
Guess I will make some more and I’ll try other sea life.

When I made this little fish I thought of a pufferfish. In the end he became a goldfish, which I find cool because I never thought about the classic goldfish we all know. That’s the great opportunity when you stay curious about what the art you make tells about yourself.

NL is the North Sea located between GB & Europe.
There is a lot of ship traffic & unfortunately broken ropes are often kicked in the sea. Lots of these ghost nets are drifting in the oceans it’s a big problem for sea life

So they were washed ashore ship ropes & I found them on the beach of Texel an island in NL. It’s a tradition there to collect washed ashore items & it became tradition to keep the beach plastic/trash free. I cleaned & untwisted mine to the smallest thread to give them a new purpose.

Melolontha melolontha this year a bit early (1. picture). A really beautiful male, you can see it on the leafs of his antennas. Males got seven and females six.

The second small insect head is inspired by ants. Its color is a bit different than the first ones but it is also recycled silk. Here the focus lies a bit more on the shape.
