Washington joins growing list of US states that restrict the use of wild animals in circuses and traveling shows | Humane World for Animals Washington has banned the use of elephants, wild cats, bears and nonhuman primates in circuses and other traveling shows. The landmark legislation, sponsored by Sen. Marko Liias (D), passed with bipartisan support, and with Governor Bob Ferguson’s signature, Washington becomes the 12th state in the U.S. to enact restrictions on the use of wild animals in traveling exhibits and shows. April 9, the date on which the Washington House of Representatives approved the measure now enacted into law, was just another day for two elderly elephants believed to be suffering from joint and mobility

WA banned elephants, big cats, bears & primates in traveling shows.

Zoos - with the same species confined - remain exempt.

Violation is a gross misdemeanor.
Same charge & penalty structure as petty theft.

If cruelty shifts by venue, who is the law protecting?

Love this artist.

And love veganism activism done through art.

You’re so right about the double standard.

It’s ironic that people eat meals that are a lot riskier healthwise, (e.g. nuggets and fries) without worrying about nutrients.

When omnivores get sick, they don't blame their diet. But when vegans get sick, it's treated like a 'system failure'.

Thoughtful observation:

Veganism focuses on ethics and plant-based on diet.

I believe plant-based diets to lead the way:

It builds the vital first step of awareness needed to embrace a full vegan lifestyle.

That’s exactly how my journey started.

It’s all about that shift in perspective.

Petition · Help Save 100 Hippos in Colombia from The Risk of an Extermination Program - Colombia · Change.org Spanish version here It's public knowledge that the largest population of hippos in the wild outside Africa is currently living in Colombia, in the larger area of the Magdalena Medio river and basins. Originally starting as a group of four hippos that Colombia's infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar illegally brought to his estate decades ago, the situation escalated when Escobar was gunned down by …

Save hippos who survived Pablo Escobar & a non-native country.

18,326+ have already signed. Your voice can be potentially life-saving.

Hippos aren't the biggest threat.

Colombia’s primary drivers of destruction are drugs, cattle farming, illegal mining & deforestation.

Colombia allows 3‑year transition for bullfighting & cockfighting.

Hippos get no such time.

Eight countries expressed interest in hippos, but govt is choosing the trigger over paperwork.

Ecosystem dangers illegal mining, cattle ranching, oil spills & drugs, remain far larger with global impacts.

A biological rarity.

The govt approves to kill them.

They said they've tried sterilization. Reports show limited efforts.

Budget: 7.2 Billion pesos.

Sanctuaries are places where animals get to live their lives fully, in peace and without exploitation.

But animal rescue isn't for free.

So please donate - or at minimum share if you can't support financially, so it reaches someone who can.

It’s not just a diet choice, it’s an interconnected system more important than people realize.

Switching to plant-based is a quadruple win:

For animals, environment, health & future generations.

The benefits are so massive that looking the other way isn't just unreasonable.

It's irresponsible.

And be kind to your neighbor: leave them a little snack in the trash. Why not.

Not just wrong. Literally unnecessary.

and the only guilt you feel for crushing an entire bag of plantbased nuggets is for not doing it sooner.

I've been lucky enough to witness this.

From all the travelling I've done and things I've seen globally, this was one of the most heartwarming.

I wish more countries would. It's safer for everyone and so many lives can be saved.

The side people don't see (and agriculture doesn't want anyone to) is the sound the mothers make for days after separation.

Or that calves are kept in isolation for months until their lives are cut short.

That's the side that everyone needs to see which is why talking about it remains critical.

And why is it considered ''okay'' to use them for entertainment?

5 days ago 1 0 0 0

Horrible.

And for what?

Not needed for survival. Not healthier than plantbased. Not cruelty-free.

No really. What's the point. Someone tell me because I'm at a loss here.

Sentience is not a poetic idea. It is a biological and moral reality. Behind every pair of animal eyes is a life that can feel fear, comfort, attachment, loss, and the desire to go on living. That matters. It should matter more than habit, appetite, profit, or convenience. #vegan #animalrights

Foie gras is banned in 20+ countries.

That ‘heritage’ contains amyloid proteins linked to Alzheimer's, Type 2 diabetes and risks amyloid disease.

Disregards public health.

The emotional reasoning is strong and as a vegan I get it.

But non-vegans often dismiss it.

Which is exactly why I stick to data.

Numbers are harder to dismiss than emotions.
