Three panel comic. Panel 1: scene from the movie Aliens; Ripley is in a mech suit and delivers her iconic line: “get away from her, you bitch!” Panel 2: the xenomorph queen lunges at Ripley in the robotic suit and they engage in a fight. Panel 3: later, the xenomorph queen is standing in the shower, mid wash. She says, “‘it takes one to know one, honey.’ That’s what I should have said.”

As the Integrity crew splashed down TO THE MINUTE of their estimated arrival and hit the BULLSEYE, this is a reminder that Katherine Johnson was an absolute genius. My God. #NASA #ArtemisII
So much of the comics advice I've found most useful is not big-picture meaning-of-life storytelling stuff, but "every page should end on a mini-cliffhanger" and "make sure each issue includes at least one splash page the artist can sell at a convention"
TRUE but also I’m afraid it’s far too optimistic to think anti-vaxxers watch historical dramas and not, like, Beast Games and the cultural and intellectual equivalents
So true, one of the most critical things we lost with twitter was a perfect platform for shaming fucking idiots with a gleeful ruthlessness. Bring back shame for dipshits, it’s a net positive!
idk man cashing in on the reputation of authors by selling that a machine is correcting craft in their voice seems pretty off to me!
I think we're going win, but I want to win hard enough that we start paying artists to paint murals in post offices again. (This time the post offices are also banks.)
A big takeaway this year has to be that Sinners and One Battle After Another were big, artist driven, swings bankrolled by WB whose future is ultimately unclear. I like living in a world where people like PTA and Ryan Coogler get to make the films they want to make with those resources.
I just think that when giant corporations lay people off, they should have to pay higher taxes. I think it’s fair and I think you’d see more “creative cost-cutting” that would save jobs
me paying $30 in gas to buy imported things that have been hit with tariffs bc joe rogan is learning about politics at age 58
kill the imposter syndrome in you head because not only is there someone out there doing it worse than you, they're also using chat gpt to do it
Anyways.
Dem leadership: changing this is a difficult process, you fool. You rube. You utter infant. Give us between $5 and $50
Mamdani, wiping grease off his hands: So it turns out there's a switch on this machine that puts it into either orphan-shredding mode or free school lunch mode. Just had to flip it
There had better be a Spider-Man backpack waiting for him.

As Greg has said here, the store's site has crashed from the traffic/flood of orders. But a GofundMe is still live to help with the store's renovation.

DreamHaven Books owner Greg Ketter emerging from a cloud of tear gas that ICE agents fired into the streets of Minneapolis.
Remember the other day when I was saluting my friend Greg Ketter, owner of Minneapolis’ DreamHaven Books? This is him the following day. Greg will never say this, so I will — now is a great time to buy books from DreamHaven. Support Americans who stand up vs. 🧊. dreamhavenbooks.com
Any agent would be very fortunate to add Jeremy to their list. One of the most talented, professional, and hard-working writers out there.
I'm sorry. As a technology writer, I'm supposed to be telling you that this bet will some day pay off, because one day we will have shoveled so many words into the word-guessing program that it wakes up and learns how to actually do the jobs it is failing spectacularly at today. This is a proposition akin to the idea that if we keep breeding horses to run faster and faster, one of them will give birth to a locomotive. Humans possess intelligence, and machines do not. The difference between a human and a word-guessing program isn't how many words the human knows. I'm sorry. I know that when we talk about "digital sovereignty," we're obliged to talk about how we can build more data-centres that we can fill up with money-losing chips from American silicon monopolists in the hopes of destroying as many jobs as possible while blowing through our clean energy goals and enshittifying as much of our potable water as possible.
Córy Doctorow with another verbal bullseye: pluralistic.net/2026/01/13/n...
I further put forward that we be allowed to be a little bit rude about it. look what the obsession with civility has gotten us. if a person is being hateful or saying something untrue, you should be allowed to get a little bitchy if you need to!
I think it’s also true that loneliness among women has historically been treated as an individual problem, while loneliness among men is treated as a societal problem. That, in turn, comes from an assumption that women are supposed to earn the company of others while men are entitled to it.
I don’t think there was a single dry eye in my mostly full theater. It was transcendent, it feels like Jessie Buckley made herself a conduit for something so powerful and human that it completely leapt off the screen
If some guy stole my shit and made millions off it while wiping out my job prospects, and you, as my friend, bought that guy's cheap mass market replica of my shit, you and i would for obvious reasons have a problem. It being a massive company, not a guy, actually makes it even more of a problem.
Writing about Elon Musk’s pay package without leading with this is like profiling John Wayne Gacy’s booming party clown career.
makes me weep to think of the gifts robbed from us because unaffordable housing has made it difficult for people to pursue their passions and hobbies
Chicago area folks: @icirr.bsky.social is holding Know Your Rights trainings all the time. I'm signed up for the virtual Nov 3 session (look for the Google doc in the middle of this page). Lots more resources & info on their site. app.smartsheet.com/b/form/a05b4...
the extent to which media elites treat liberal americans as if they do not count in the body politic is a real problem
the practice of giving books a star rating out of five has degraded literary culture profoundly and ought to be wiped from the face of the Earth
dems rly need to be building websites/tools that let people plug in details like zip code, income, type of insurance, etc. so that they can see how much money republicans have cost them/will cost them next cycle. hardly a better message than “these fucks are costing you $x.xx, vote for us”
