Philanthropy is a billionaire trick. They took all the money and now they get to decide. And then when one of them deigns to pay for something, they get treated like they are the best people in the world. They aren't.
Heaven help them if they call back about cleaning draft lines
Not even getting into a CGBGs-branded festival under the Brooklyn bridge that's gonna be like hundreds if not thousands of dollars, that's just par for the course now but you kinda hope at least SOME folks would say "Morrissey? Ew, no thanks"
Honestly it is a real bummer to see folks like Patti Smith, Bikini Kill, and the members of Sleater-Kinney performing at a festival where fucking Morrissey is the headliner.
Setting aside the many many MANY issues with both Michael (and Janet for that matter), this level of misogynoir is shocking and yet also unsurprising. JFC.
I knew MICHAEL was going to be bad but I didn't realize that it doesn't even include Janet Jackson AT ALL. Good lord.
This essay, by @timgrierson.bsky.social, on Leaving Neverland and how so many people have once again chosen to ignore the reality of Michael Jackson’s legacy is as excellent as others have said: www.avclub.com/leaving-neve...
Also a reminder that Etsy, Shopify, Squarespace, and almost every e-commerce platform you can think of are sharing user's product data & artwork with ChatGPT & Copilot and not letting us opt out of it.
I really love Haus of Decline's work and I really appreciate the opaqueness of this post. It's been hard enough for me to create and make new work and I cannot imagine trying to do that on a daily basis while also publicly transitioning. Support their Patreon if you can, even $5 a month helps out!
Recipe:
- 2 oz gin
- .75 oz dry vermouth
- dash of orange bitters
Add the gin. Muddle 6-7 lovage leaves & stalk in a shaker. Add the vermouth, bitters, and ice, stir and then shake.
Strain (if you don’t like bits of leaf in your drink, double strain) into a glass and enjoy!
The leaves of a lovage plant, washed and on a kitchen towel
A light green lovage martini in a Nick & Nora glass with lovage leaves in the background
A few years ago we got a lovage plant which we put in our backyard. It’s incredibly hardy and comes back strong each year so this year we decided to use its leaves & stalks to make…Lovage Martinis!
the tech fascists think they are so clever and smart but their entire worldview is just a bunch of stale apologetics for race hatred and fascism
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
Aww cutie
This is absolutely breathtaking

Also yes, I am in love with 1995 Annie Lennox, what of it
When Annie Lennox sings "now every one of us was made to suffer / every one of us was made to weep," girl I feel you.
The new breed of tech idiots all want to be Steve Jobs but the thing about Jobs & Apple (setting aside their problems) is that the run from the iMac (1998) to the iPad (2010) was genuinely revolutionary AND instantly accessible. The moment you saw an iPod (2001) you understood and you wanted one
My colleague @marucajulia.bsky.social has an update on the pending PG sale, and there may be a gray cloud attached to the silver lining: PG's union says "representatives of the new ownership confirmed that steep staffing cuts to the Post-Gazette are incoming" ...

I just feel bad for folks who get duped into like opening a store downtown "because of the draft."
"So when the draft came to Green Bay last year, Cousineau said people were expecting to make $10,000 or more a night through the rental properties...Instead, the draft’s crowds were primarily made up of families who live close enough to drive in for the day."

i swear i've seen this before. where have i seen a white, male politician's documented racism, hostility, and disregard of communities of colour be blithely excused, until that antipathy is directed at the white liberals who "got him where is?"
eric swallwell's sexual predation of young (white) women is a non-starter and a political career ender. graham platner's racism and antisemitism is not. got it.
Barbara Bel Geddes conjuring up a lifetime of backstory and sadness and longing in those few short scenes in Vertigo. Astonishing.
