A WIRED review of permits for data center projects using natural gas and linked to OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, and xAI shows they could emit more than 129 million tons of greenhouse gases per year. www.wired.com/story/new-ga...

This is the administration suppressing an important organization that tracks the craziest and worst hate groups: nazis, misogynists, anti-LGBTQ+ and other vile crap.

When Trump shows you who he is--believe it.
Happy Birthday to the one and ONLY Charles Mingus.
He once called my dad up (in response to an article that was quite positive) and just said, "It's Mingus. Don't write my name no more baby..."

When Trump demonstrates support like this for awful, vile people, he shows the world who he really is:
www.propublica.org/article/andr... This story should be as big as Epstein--it's happening now.
Trump has destroyed federal guardrails meant to ensure secure and fair elections.
Some fear his actions are aimed at making sure the upcoming midterms go his way.
With school choice programs ascendant not just in Iowa but across the U.S., Cedar Rapids offers a preview of who wins and who loses when education meets the free market.
White and light green text: "Meta: Your glasses shouldn't know our names." Tinted green and blue images of surveillance cameras and footage of people walking down a street, surrounded by rectangles. White ACLU logo. Black background.
Installing facial recognition tech in AI glasses would hand bad actors a new tool for scams, abuse, and harassment.

Died this day, 2020: Alto saxophonist Lee Konitz, aged 92. Konitz was part of the 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘰𝘭 nonet and in 1948, after their two week appearance at the Royal Roost, Miles led some of the same players in a quintet, heard on this very decent sounding radio broadcast.

Happy Birthday to one of my great heroes, Gene Ammons, born this day 101 years ago, 4/14/25 and gone far too young at age 49 in 1974. The sweetest spot on record is 1960-62. Roughly 20 LPs in that widow, including my faves: Jug, Nice 'n Cool, Boss Tenor, Soulful Moods (all in 4th row from bottom).
Trump loves touting "no tax on tips," but ignores that his Department of Labor proposed a rule that would make it easier for corporations to misclassify workers.
Millions of gig workers are wrongly labeled "independent contractors," and cut out of benefits and protections designated for employees.
Shout out to the Quay brothers as well. I saw a museum exhibition of their film work about 15 years back…
Kermit the Frog is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.
Yeah I did not keep up with anything past those two.
lol I heard it no later than 1986, played by my counselors at summer camp in Wisconsin. So transgressive my to young ears — I went and bought it on cassette, and The Blind Leading the Naked as well….
The VA lost about 700 social workers and 500 psychologists and psychiatrists over the course of 2025 — a significant change for an agency that was adding mental health staffers nearly every month leading up to Trump’s return to office.
The success of the U.S. vaccination system depends on two fundamental pillars: parents trusting in vaccines and children having access to them.
Under RFK Jr., both are in peril.
I spent a lot of time with this record starting in college. More than BB actually…
"Powered by upright bass lines, church chords and the quiet insistence of swing, the city’s jazz story began in jam sessions and storefront clubs along Hastings Street."
5 Minutes That Will Make You Love Detroit Jazz (gift link):
I’ve had this record for years—can’t recall where I found it. It’s not as great as it looks, but it looks AMAZING.
Just wanted to remind folks, especially the GOP and the FDD, that Barack Obama’s 2015 nuclear deal didn’t give Iran control of the Strait of Hormuz or allow it to keep 60% enriched uranium. It sent $1.7 billion to Iran versus the tens of billions Iran will now make from tolls. 🤷🏽♂️
Thanks to the dapper fellow on my morning subway ride blasting Sonny Clark out of a Bluetooth speaker. Obnoxious in the best way. Made my morning. We chatted briefly about Jackie sounding so mature relatively early in his career.
Mom’s watercolor from that time in Tangier.
Dad’s hand of Fatima medallion can be seen here.
One of theseI’ll find some of my dad’s writing about the time he and my mom spent in Morocco, hanging at Randy’s club there. Mom did a lot of art while there, and dad picked up a silver medallion he wore for the rest of his life.
Randy Weston was born in Brooklyn, NY on this day in 1926
While the version of "Fables Of Faubus" on Mingus Ah Um is excellent, I prefer the 1960 version from Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus for two reasons: (1) Eric Dolphy; (2) it contains the censored lyrics.

If you're into "Spiritual Jazz," but aren't collecting CHARLES MINGUS albums, you're doing it wrong. Hard to pick just one Mingus LP, but you can't go wrong with this all-time classic. My 1959, original deep groove #vinyl pressing. Basically, just buy everything by Mingus.
