Make sure you use the incremental save feature too! Keep multiple save versions so you can fall back on one if needed or even append stuff from an older version.

I've begun volunteering as a 3D artist for the huge Beyond Skyrim: Valenwood project. A first for me in many ways; so much to learn! Lots of amazing, kind, and helpful people though.

You can follow the project here: beyondskyrim.org/project/vale...

I'm pretty happy with the sculpt and details now. I'll leave it for tonight, give it 24 hours and reopen with new eyes. pending any changes brought on by eyes away, it'll be time for retopo. How am I doing?

Thank you so much!

Seconding what has already been said. Topology depends on workflow and what the final deployment will be. That dense grid fill at the bottom is problematic though and will cause shading issues.

I think my longest was around 10 hours for a single frame. My poor GPU.

My bugbear with Blender tutorials is that the vast majority all assume you're a beginner so they spend the first 1/3rd going over the basics every single time. It's not easy to find courses/lessons for intermediate and advanced skill levels. And yeah, a lot of instructors leave our information too.

A 3D render of an overgrown skeleton leaning against a moss-covered brick wall. The skeleton is covered in vines, lichen, and dirt and has a bearded axe embedded in the skull, leaving a large gash in the bone. In the background is a broken cart and several boxes and barrels, also overgrown.

Unto Death - The completed scene that the axe was meant to go in! The idea I had in mind was a long-dead trade caravan that got raided by bandits and left to the ravages of time. Made in #blender and #substancepainter

My favourite part of creating any larger #3d scene is trying to find that one singular object that causes my render times to double. Suffering.

Blender discards your colour transforms if you export an image in .exr format. There are some plugins and tools to help get it back again. There are some free shortcuts for Affinity Photo/Affinity to add them back in again in post www.jamesritson.co.uk/resources.htm. Also the paid addon Render Raw.

Well done! Very Frutiger areo-esque.

Best part of the modelling process in my opinion. Love putting textures and materials on the things you've made and seeing how light interacts with all the fine details. #blender

Got the base materials down. Now to tweak them and get some weathering. Need dirt in those crevices! #blender #3d

Prepping the high-poly portions of the axe. Sculpted wood grain on the handle and using sub-div booleans and vertex colour transfer for baking later. #blender
