Did you know that the bees that need saving are NOT honeybees?
Honeybees are the dairy cows of bees. People brought them over from Europe to make us honey.
The problem with honeybees, esp in resource-limited ecosystems (like hey! cities!) is that they compete with our native bees for food.
Brown and orange butterfly feeding on yellow and green flowers.
Painted lady feeding on Schott's pygmy cedar. I was wondering if the plant was an actual cedar because its needle-shaped leaves smell like pine, but it's a member of the aster family that grows on rock walls in the desert.

A line of clouds stretches across the frame from center left to center right above a green field. The clouds have a relatively flat base, with the bottom third of them painted a deeply saturated pinkish-orange by the setting Sun (which is out of frame directly behind me). The rest of the clouds are mostly whitish-gray. Between the base of the clouds and the horizon, shadows cast by the clouds extend for miles into the distance, appearing as dark streaks that converge at a point on the horizon.
I've seen remarkable things in my years of chasing, but this scene from my first year remains a favorite. Here, the flanking line of a supercell is painted by the setting Sun, while the very clouds you're looking at cast shadows for miles (seen as anticrepuscular rays near the horizon). #photography

If you are also worried about tariffs and supply chain shortages, and have the financial means to prepare, here is what I have stocked up on and plan to buy soon, plus what I would get if I had kids, a car or a larger home, based on reporting I've read or done myself in the last several months (🧵):

Brown-winged Kingfisher (Pelargopsis amauroptera) a warm brown bird with bright red bill perched on branch from the Mangroves of Sundarbans, West Bengal, India. We celebrate World Wetlands Day on February 2nd, 2025; here is a jewel from one of India’s most diverse wetlands. Title: Penance_10 Brown-winged Kingfisher (Pelargopsis amauroptera) Acrylic on Canvas Size:8x8 inches Location: Sundarbans, West Bengal, India Duration: 66 Hours April 1st, 2019 Reference: Own Reference Sold, Private Collector During one of my birdwatching trips to eastern of India, stumbled upon this jewel. I was most captivated by their habitat; the groves were so densely vegetated, visibility was minimal. However, so many species not only survive but thrive in such tough conditions. Fishing cat is one of them, nocturnal and shy. For this kingfisher, though their bill and frontal body parts are a big giveaway, they shine like a lamp in the thick dark habitat. Here seen sitting in the branch early morning waiting for his next snack, shadows created by the canopy create enough shade for the school of fishes to gather. This provides ample opportunity for the King to hunt. Though early morning, the light was not enough to get my focus right. Had to use one of my torches to light the bird, which enabled my camera to focus, hence the two sources of light on the subject. Done my possible best to depict this magical habitat!

Two cats sitting in a dark grey fuzzy cat tree hammock- Calliope- grey and white cat is sat upon by her brother, Phil. (Phil is a black and white tuxedo cat. )She was lying quietly- until he wanted space too.

Innervisions- I was probably 6-7 when that came out- I think (?) my parents had it on 8 track. I was lucky- my mom introduced me to great music growing up- until the 80’s. ( she was lost in Miami Vice soundtracks.🤣)

My three cats keeping me warm on the couch. Photo is at an angle- since Im unable to move without disturbing them. There is a large mirror behind the couch. Black and white cat keeping feet toasty - on a fuzzy white blanket. Black cat in center and grey and white thinks she’s a scarf.
This isn’t the greatest pic- but tough angle when being smothered by cats. (They are growing so fast.)
I’ve never had such cuddly cats. #cats
Phil- black and white tux cat. He’s 5 months old now. He’s laying on a hammock cat tree- that’s grey and fluffy. - a ball hangs by some twine.
Same cat tree. but Phil is sprawled on the top- ( tux cat) his sister Calliope is curled into the hammock. She is grey and white.
Stewart- the black cat. He’s mad. No room in cat tree. ( its ok- there is another one) He has a little white patch under his chin.
Happy Saturday. Pretty miserable as of late. And ill have to shovel again tomorrow before it turns to slush- close to a foot by AM.
And more next week.
Here’s some cats to brighten your day. They’re growing fast. Phil is a moose!
