Honestly? I’d take that file name over untitled. 😂

Are you a student? Three easy things that will help you succeed in any class:
1) Read the syllabus.
2) Read assignment guidelines and rubric. Follow them.
3) NAME YOUR FILES (not Untitled 29).
I’m currently experiencing in real time both the benefits and drawbacks of animated slide deck. Benefits? It looks cool. Drawbacks—the presenters keep accidentally skipping ahead and then going back takes way longer than no animation and it’s annoying as the audience member.
You know it’s a good conference when there are multiple concurrent panels that you must decide between…BEA has that problem every year.
I’m in Vegas for BEA. I got Indian food on the way back to my hotel tonight. It was toooo spicy. So I ate it (and enjoyed it!) and then I *had* to go get the fancy-looking gelato downstairs to help calm the heat in my mouth.
I had to. It was required by…the law.
It’s been awhile since a book made me stay up late. Yesteryear just did that. I should’ve been asleep two hours ago…but I had to finish it.
I get to see TWO author talks in the next few weeks and I’m really excited! Caro Claire Burke next week and then @mommacusses.bsky.social in May! Thank you for coming to Wichita!
I got into weights when I was pregnant and have continued it for the past 20-ish months after my daughter was born. I did not know I would fall in love with it.
I started this book the other day and it’s been really interesting. Worth a read!
If you teach a media literacy class or any low-level introduction to media class, mind sending me your syllabus? Thank you!
Also, why are they doing this report so early?
I usually wake up with the Today show.
Today it was Pete Hegseth delivering an argument and update on Epic Fury. Not the Monday I wanted. I got so angry listening to him. 🤬
I always love talking about professional wrestling! @thepwsa.bsky.social @mpcaaca.bsky.social
I'm just glad I appeared competent in our first Zoom meeting last week! Hopefully only a few people think I'm an idiot, not the whole class.
THEN in sending "ignore" emails, I sent to one who needs the assignment. Sent an ignore the ignore.
Tomorrow starts week two of that class. I now look like an idiot.
This is why I shouldn't email before 7am. *facepalm*
Sent a message to students via Canvas. Sent to all who hadn't submitted forgetting that there was nothing to submit...so it sent to everyone in the class regardless of grade.
McPherson College is hiring for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor of English. I'm not on the search committee, so I can't answer specific questions, but happy to answer questions about working here!
Come work with me!

Journalists & journalism teachers: what do you do with your old editions of the AP Stylebook? Do you keep them? Recycle them?
I just found $70 in cash on my desk. I should clean it more often.
(This is not a normal occurrence. I collected money for a colleague's baby shower group gift.)
Nothing like the beginning of a new semester to clean your desk/office.
Okay. I slacked at writing more. But it's because I just got so excited about the class and got caught up in a whirlwind of creation. Yay!
Have you ever thought about how weird the word "dungeon" is?
First, I typed "poopular culture" on the syllabus. Shit.
I'm working on my Pop Culture course today. Here's a thread of things I've thought about while doing so...
I'll be adding throughout the day! So check back.
I don't want them to do the work for a speech outline and then not give that speech...
(Happy to explain how I teach the class if you DM me.)
Does anyone have any interesting assignments focused on outlines? Aside from speech or paper outlines?
The way I teach public speaking no longer stresses outlines for speeches (well, I stress it, but there are no assignments for outlines) and I want them to still build that skill.
The worst part about listening to good music via headphones is the inability* to sing along with it in public.
*socially acceptable inability. I am in a library after all.
My daughter is now old enough that her weekly fee for daycare went down.
I'm both excited by this and utterly saddened. My baby isn't a baby anymore. 😭😭
