I think @sebastianbae.bsky.social would agree that you know you’ve arrived as a game designer when people make custom 3D-printed storage for your game. This is awesome, courtesy of a co-worker! #wargaming @thedietzfoundation.bsky.social

I got to be the FAC for the MRF on the 31st MEU back in 2010. It was a blast.

Broke out “One Billion Users” today and fittingly our 14YO won. There are some interesting mechanics about the attack and defense of networks along with the effects of toxicity and influencers on different platforms.

Without stating your age, post your favourite film released the year you turned 18.

Who says you can’t combine work and play? Had a great time this afternoon introducing the SPA VETS employee resource group to my #ManeuverWarfare #wargame from @thedietzfoundation.bsky.social. Red squeaked out a win after a titanic air and naval clash in the middle of the ocean! #wargaming

Pretty sure the destruction of Sodom and Gamorrah was just bomber CAS.

& after the fire came the ringing of tinnitus, & when @bafriedman.bsky.social heard it, or thought maybe perhaps he heard it, he spat out his dip, shot-gunned a Rip-It, & said, “alright Lord, you called, let’s f**king go.”

A great & powerful wind tore the mountains apart & shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.

I’ve also said this elsewhere, but to reiterate: our strategic approach needs more Boyd. A lot of Boyd’s richest concepts on competing and actually “winning” were left on the cutting room floor. They need reinvigoration.

If there’s a #wargaming portfolio, I want in.

OTD in 2022 Russian warship Moskva, that was told “go fuck yourself”, went & fucked itself and sunk. By a country without a navy. In a land war.

I remain a master strategist.

So there's an interesting case study in this that's worth thinking about: the ATM.

The Automated Teller Machine was seen as a death knell for the profession of being a bank teller - the machines would replace the workforce. That prediction was 100% wrong.

airborne radars still required night fighters to get pretty close to their targets.

So it’ll be WWII night fighters vs foo fighters, and who knows what the foo fighters might turn out to be? #wargaming

with a confined playing space, at least in a way that felt plausible. So I’ve decided to go back to where it all began—I’m going to retcon the game and take it back to its WWII origins, where electronic sensors, while certainly prolific, were still new enough and constrained enough that

While this prototype had its genesis in research I did on the WWII “foo fighter” phenomenon, it was intended to be present-day with modern sensors attempting to track down UAP. One thing that became clear to me was that modern EM sensor ranges really didn’t fit into a game

@fortcircle.bsky.social #CircleDC2026–while I definitely enjoyed watching the Rebels repeatedly assassinate Imperial leaders in Star Wars: Rebellion, this year’s Circle DC convention also gave me invaluable feedback on a prototype that’s been sitting on my back burner for too long.

Ian Brown’s books and his game #Maneuver Warfare

Part 2/2:
The designer, @iantb.bsky.social, overheard and generously offered me a copy—along with two of his books I’d been wanting to read as well. Really appreciate the kindness. Thank you, sir. If you’ve not seen the game #ManeuverWarfare, check it out at: www.dietzfoundation.org

Part 1/2:
One of the best parts of #CircleDC2026 (beyond great gaming) is reconnecting with friends, meeting new people, and getting to interact with designers, YouTubers, etc. During a raffle, I mentioned I was hoping to win a copy of #ManeuverWarfare but didn’t.

I’m more curious about whether we have the ships to enact an effective blockade of all major Iranian ports simultaneously, and whether we start shooting non-Iranian ships that refuse to stop.

Very limited options left to the Rebellion for new bases. The Empire moved the Death Star to Dantooine, and—with Emperor Palpatine present to see it—blew Dantooine to pieces, and the new Rebel base with it. #wargaming @fortcircle.bsky.social

#CircleDC2026–Rebellion ended in appropriately cinematic fashion. The Empire captured then released Leia with a homing device in place, leading them to the Rebel’s hidden base on Hoth. The Rebels evacuated to a new base, but the Empire had effectively collated their intelligence to winnow down the
