The studios that get it right tend to do one simple thing: they listen early.
Not after launch. Or after backlash. Early.

Video games accessibility really isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about caring enough to try before someone has to point it out loud.
I've wrote a new post on the math I use to draw procedural roads only using lines and arcs. Here is how the construction unfolds:
IMPORTANT: Under federal law, it's very hard, at times near-impossible, to sue federal law enforcement officers for civil rights violations. But legal theorists have said for decades that there is a possible way to sue under state law instead.
This is a VERY big test case.
making video games
imagined: make fun little guys
actual: invoicing, doing contracts, writing taxes, having planning meetings, doing UI
If you move the reference point far away enough, you can essentially find the point on an object that is furthest *in a direction* (e.g. lowest point, highest point, etc). Great for spawning directional effects, and other useful queries.

However, we also found that the program improved participants’ artistic output, including the time they could dedicate to their art and their satisfaction with the quality and the impact of their work.” ‘What art could we produce as a society if our artists could invest more time and money in their craft?’ Stephen Roll The GI program was found to reduce financial stress and debt; increase artists’ ability to invest time in their art; increase motivation and productivity; and improve mental health, while showing no reduction in other sources of income.
2,400 artists in NYC got $1,000 per month in basic income for 18 months beginning in 2022. Same as in Ireland, the results were overwhelmingly positive. Artists spent more time on their art and became more satisfied with the quality and impact of their work.

A screenshot of a Notion page showing a very long art guide, screenshots from art samples, and notes on technical direction.
Cannot stress this enough for #indiegame developers: document EVERYTHING — even if you're a solo dev.
Ask "what will one-year-from-now me need to remember?"
For Neo Harbor Rescue Squad, our docs were epic, including a HUGE art guide for our entire pipeline. It saved us lots of work.

"The pilot participants who received assistance were given $1k in the first month and then $600 for the following 11 months. The results showed recidivism fell, and self-sufficiency and mental health improved, all resulting in net savings for taxpayers."

Toronto Games Week June 11-17th, 2026 A picture of the Toronto skyline with clip art sticker-like images. Text at the bottom of the image that says: Tell us about your Toronto based, Toronto made, and favorite Toronto-centric games!
Hey Bluesky, we wanna know, what are you favourite Toronto-made games?
Let us know what we should be checking out in the replies!
everyone got exposed to a mass disabling event. everyone got to see how precarious their jobs were, their savings - if they had any - were. we already don't deal with the ripple effects of *death* from covid, but we even ignore how *sickness* impacted everything, including ones own finances.
one thing about all the arguing about money is it doesn't account for *precarity*.
say you really are getting enough money, more than before even. GOOD money. more than just matching rent and food increases, better.
does any part of you feel like this will *last*? that it's *stable*?
Screenshot of an FT article. Headline: AI chatbots misdiagnose in over 80% of early medical cases, study finds image: man at a desk with an open laptop and a phone showing an active chatbot text: Consumer AI chatbots falter when used to make medical diagnoses, particularly when faced with incomplete information, according to new research highlighting the risks of relying on them as digital doctors. The study finds that leading large language models struggle to suggest a range of possible diagnoses when patient data is limited, frequently narrowing too quickly to a single answer. The results point to a broader limitation in AI: while chatbots can identify likely conditions once a case is fully specified, they are less reliable at the earlier, more uncertain stages of clinical reasoning. The findings highlight the dangers of relying on the technology alone to pinpoint health problems, particularly in cases where the data users input may be vague or patchy. “These models are great at naming a final diagnosis once the data is complete, but they struggle at the open-ended start of a case, when there isn’t much information,” said Arya Rao, the study’s lead author and a researcher at the Massachusetts-based Mass General Brigham healthcare system
"So whatever problem AI attempts to solve becomes what philosopher Henri Bergson would call a ‘ready-made problem’ – a problem that is expressed as a function of things prior to itself that have already been turned into abstractions". ('Resisting AI', p43)
if any of you want to help by sharing this or telling friends about it, that would be wonderful.
because so many devs are participating it’s a beautiful collection of games featuring the theme of fictional OS. it’s inspiring to see all in one place.
maybe some of you will find something you love! 💕
everyone in my game design circles already knows about this (or at least the academic types do) but for anybody who doesn't here's something
a beautiful little writeup.
Since I cook a lot I didn't find the cooking puzzles hard at all, they use very simple standard techniques (lauditory) but found them quite inspiring and educational, particularly the dosa and idli sequences; I feel personally empowered to cook these dishes by this game!
We need a maximum wage and I am not joking
There's no reason for someone to make more than like... $200,000/year at best
it continues to stun me that trackmania, Literally The Coolest Thing Ever, has never moved beyond its extremely dedicated niche fanbase. this shit rocks no matter how you look at it
Caught an embarrassing bug where every element was creating its own random seed instead of working with a single global seed to the solution. Broke the whole puzzle. Took me two hours to actually find out why results were just sometimes broken.
Oops.

congrats to the entire team at @outerloopgames.bsky.social for the launch of Dosa Divas! Will look forward to checking it out soon — it looks thoroughly gorgeous and vibrant 🎉
Added a character selection screen to our game! 🍲

PLEASE THIS WOULD ROCK SO MUCH DUUUUDE
I keep saying all these AI guys are just like Elizabeth Holmes, but stories like this make it LITERALLY true. They are killing people with fake medicine. This is murder.
Hmm, game funding prediction: the group that'll keep investing through the slump will be streamers. It's already happening, and it'll accelerate as a few initial ones do well. This will look more like publishing, and they Will interfere, because they'll be domain experts investing VERY specifically.
Ok, calling this Proof of Concept a success! Time to organize the content projects now and integrate this into the main project
The good news: the main project will be so much smaller and nimbler to work with and I can distribute across any number of others for the content.
Super cool
So @farisattieh.bsky.social, who dreamt up House of Hikmah, sent this to me with a big crying emoji and it's so cool to see the game ripple through media. It does leave a glaring hole - I do really wish Western media, who control Metacritic and all that, would hold more space for non-Western stories
