A Svartpilen 801 next to the Fodderletter Lum in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. This free-standing stone chimney is one of two solitary 'lums' which can be found on the roadside between Tomintoul and Grantown-on-Spey. They were originally used by the roadmen who were formally responsible for the upkeep of this stretch of road in the 1920's and 30's. For shelter, the men used a portable wooden hut which was set up against the chimneys allowing them to have a fire - no doubt a welcome retreat during the inclement weather! The lum was restored in 1996 as part of a conservation project run by The Crown Estate and the Scottish Conservation Projects Trust. It continues to be looked after and maintained by Crown Estate Scotland.

The roadmen would've been grateful for the Fodderletter Lum on a morning like this.
