Latest Bass Rock gannet census reveals continued decline The latest Northern Gannet census at Bass Rock, Lothian, has revealed that the number of occupied nests continues to decline. Results for the 2024 Bass Rock Gannet Count showed a total of 46,045 apparently occupied sites, equating to a decrease of 6.7% on the 2023 figure. The Scottish Seabird Centre has suggested that Bass Rock's famous gannet population has not yet started to recover from the impact of the avian flu outbreak in 2022.
