went to watch miku on monday on my first ever chicago trip. the set design is fantastic and the characters popped out very well from the screen. i feel like vocaloid songs are often very fast so huge props to the band members for keeping up and doing an amazing job.

mageek (bug) is a nerdy maggot that evolves into knowfly (bug/psychic) an anthropomorphic scientist fly with white hairs and patterned wings. giraffa (bug) is a giraffe weevil that looks more like a giraffe. powacoo (normal/flying) is a sandpiper with a small drill beek. drillew (steel/flying) is a curlew with a drill beak much larger than the rest of its body. it keeps itself sturdy with its mech-like feet. beetwigt (bug/flying) is a carpenter bee holding a stick like a witch riding a broom. beehaus (bug/grass) is a birdhouse looking cocoon the bee constructed. and beebayaga (bug/flying) is a house with a witch-hat looking stinger facing the front. it flies in reverse. repare (dark) is a reptilian looking hare. taredown (dark) is a more monstrous hare. it has spiny keratinized growths on its ear, back, and tail. it’s like a quadrupedal nidoking. grimeko (normal) is white/purple lizard with a snake-like body. when it sheds its skin it evolves into shevecko (normal/poison). it’s a lot like muk and scrafty. having a very goopy body but it wears its shed skin below itself as a way of keeping it together. hamstar (psychic) is a bright-white orbular hamster with ears, two arms, and a tail, much like the 5 points on a star. orbidwarf (psychic) is a larger hamstar that resembles a comet. the comet tail is light blue. balzooka (flying) is a new take on the beta design “baloonda.” it resembles a balloon animal dog, however the face is on its body and the head acts as an arm cannon.

i got up to the part in TTYD where you get to hatch a yoshi partner, and i was thinking about how different they look from the established baby yoshi designs. so i drew one out that’s more of a happy middle ground. this is how i envision my guy “sashimi” looking.

SUPER MARIO BROS 2 (ALL STARS)
i played smb2 on the nes a few times before and i always struggled. the snes (all stars) version is just the right amount of difficulty. saving and being able to switch out characters whenever you lose helps a lot and isn’t as much of a cakewalk as the gba version.

THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE
nintendo star wars was ok but i think the first movie was way better. this one kinda shoves a lot of references at you and won’t care wether you get them or not. it got some laughs out of me and i loved the scenes with bowser and jr in them. also it has birdo :)

HOPPERS
i think this is one of the better pixar movies in a while but it’s basically a silly, unhinged, but ultimately worse The Wild Robot. it doesn’t try to play into a lot of typical modern disney tropes, which i respect a lot.

TMNT (2012 SHOW)
started watching this w/ roommate last fall and we finished it 2 weeks ago. it drags on too long for some of its arcs. i could go on about how much i don’t like donnie or mikey. i think the best episodes are the ones that don’t focus on shredder or krang, like much of the space arc

POKéMON LEGENDS ZA
i’ve only done the main story so far. the new approach to battles was fresh and exciting. only some of the new megas are cool. i had no idea what i was working towards for 90% of it, until the story got interesting. overall tho i think i liked PLA slightly more.
