A quick google: 30k nannies in the UK (National Nannies Assoc report) and 8.2m households with children (ONS) is about 0.36%. Certainly doesn't feel like "the middle class" is defined by having a nanny.

With you on the showers and driving (easy for me as a fit and healthy non-driver with good public transport options though) - but on heating offices I think that might be more energy efficient than heating lots of separate homes to work in. Maybe reverse in summer with aircon vs sweltering homes!
