Showing it my middle school students to explain how when we read (or consume media) we ask questions and interact in our heads. Good modeling.

Then my principal who hated me walked in, didn't understand what was happening, and then they swore like the only time in the whole movie.

Dentist office. Kid is blasting iPad in waiting room, parent shouting questions for the form to kid to be heard over volume

DO YOU FEEL ANXIOUS BY THE DENTIST?

Headphones? Lower volume? Get me out of here, the root canal is looking good.

My idea: Spartan options. Summer camp that's just in the woods or wherever and deal with the boredom.

College with basic gym, basic cafeteria and lots of study carrels. Lectures or projects, but no online options.

Basic price for both, too.

Every day another "near miss" airline airport disaster is reported and its always an airline my partner has, in the past, refused to let me book for "reasons". So, she knows something.

Kathy Bates has been a great Matlock. I can see Octavia Spenser, too, but more a Jessica Fletcher (which was floated at one point).

Julie K. White is my wild card.

I just illegally stream stuff like this.

Best is having a MIL who gets talked into things every time she visits the Verizon store. As her unofficial IT person I had all of her log in credentials, so....

When the Pats (other sport, I know) were 4-13 it wasn't the losing that bothered me, but how dull the games were. Just uninspired.

Being a Red Sox fan is not about those years of losing, but being in the race. If the games are fun (and heartbreaking) for you, that's why we're a fan.

A Black homecare nurse was talking about how many patients didn't want her because she was "dirty" and besides the obvious racism just thought she was unclean and would get them sicker.

Agreed.

Next level asshattery: Leaving the weights on the bar while they do a set elsewhere. Just no.

I bought seven bags of Starbucks on sale (less than $10 a pound is now gold) and as I unpacked each bag I felt like they were bags of heroin in a bad crime movie.

Vermont Engineer Creates Free Internet-Connected Pay Phones | Seven Days Patrick Schlott has installed three RandTel phones — in Randolph, North Tunbridge and Thetford. It's an old-school way to connect in our digital age.

The solution. Every school has a wifi network they can connect it to without pay, plus city offices, etc.

Omg. I read half of THE MIXED UP FILES OF MRS. BASIL E. FRANKWELLER in 6th grade and never finished it (reasons). Age 40, I mentioned the basic plot to my school's librarian and she just pulled it off the shelf.

Finished the book 30 years late.

There was a great B plot of THAT 70S SHOW where Red won a VCR and so didn't watch the final episode of ROOTS (even as he sat on his couch at that time) because he had the VCR. Which, of course, didn't record.

Such an obvious outcome but I laughed the whole ride.

Not sure about UK, but you can't be more American than being mixed race. I've never seen people more proud than when they get their results back from one of the ancestry DNA places and beam about being 3% something.

My partner says Woke 2 will be:

Person 1: (asks confidently) Can I have help?
Person 2: Yes. (helps, perhaps small talk).
P1: (feels comfortable asking, not feeling stupid): How do you do that so I can do it myself.
P2: Like this (shows P1 in helpful, empowering way).
Both leave satisfied.

They don't really get what makes America great.

They don't like the answer when someone tells them, either.

You want money, your school takes the state test--every kid who gets cash. No exceptions.

The school has to demonstrate growth for that kid AND better scores than the local public school AND better success the kid's categories (gender, poverty, disability). Set the bar high.

This is a depressing element of paying homeschoolers I had not considered. Sigh. I figured the parents who randomly pulled their kids were cranks only (we also have some very nice homeschool parents).
