Why are some males caring toward infants while others are neglectful or abusive? I'm so pleased to share work that my colleagues and I @princeton.edu have just published @nature.com (an explanatory thread to follow!) (1/8)

The biggest problem holding neuroscience back right now isn’t data or tools, thanks in large part to the BRAIN Initiative.
It’s fragmentation across species. I wrote this to hopefully spark discussion around an issue that can only be solved as a community👇

Leuk artikel in de NRC over hoe grondeekhoorns een prachtig dier model zijn. Comparative Neuroscience FTW :)
Such fun and a real privilege to write this Journal Club article in @natrevneuro.nature.com. Introducing a fascinating creature and what it teaches us about behavioural coordination rdcu.be/eZnKn
Yes! Totally agree - we need more comparative studies in mus species to understand variation in social behavior. This is a good start.
Let me check if the gRNAs align
This wouldn’t have been possible without @soniakarkare.bsky.social and Dario Aspesi. Thank you guys! And reach out in case you are interested in using the vectors - they will be available through Addgene after publication
Very happy to share an expansion to the comparative gene editing toolkit: AAVs to reduce dopamine receptor levels that are functional in many rodent species. Fun collaboration with @malu-murugan.bsky.social, Elliott Albers and Frank Meye.
My bicycle commute makes me want to go to work - even on Saturday @achucarro.bsky.social
Maybe, but I think the key thing here is public pressure
This ‘accountability’ of the Dutch government only appeared after years of relentless investigation by stubborn MPs and building public pressure became untenable. Politicians will be politicians.
Today is the 145th anniversary of the birth of Nicolas Achucarro Lund.
In 2012 we launched Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, centred in the study of #glialcells in #health and #disease to honour his legacy.
Cool, I have validated D1 and D2, and have V1AR and D3 cloned as well. Eventually we’ll get everything CRISPRed :)
Such a pleasure to collaborate with @briantrainor.bsky.social They used comparative gene editing in California mice - check it out!

Fantastisch plan - zou wel fijn zijn als jullie met een iets originelere naam konden komen.
Post a photo you took with no context to bring some zen to the timeline.
Today marks my first day @achucarro.bsky.social. Very excited to start my own lab in Comparative Neuroscience. Stay tuned for more!
I agree but how?
Pass it on.

The European federation of Academies of Sciences has posted a statement of concern about the developments in the US. They now have added the option to endorse this statement as an organisation. Would be great if this could go viral. allea.org/portfolio-it...

🧪For NIH folks looking for what to do next: my department, UD Psych & Brain sciences, is searching for a new chair. Stay in the Mid-Atlantic, start date this year!
Please help us get the word out 🧪
@sbn-bsky.bsky.social has released a statement on current events. SBN DEI comm, of which I'm chair, wrote this statement to be people-first focused on the human impacts. I want to thank Peg McCarthy & the Exec Comm in quickly approving the document w/ few edits. This is why SBN is my "home" society.
