Nothing says ‘new school year prep’ like battling the sticky Velcro graveyard left on the whiteboard 😂✨. From grimy disaster ➡️ spotless shine… armed with a sponge, half the cleaning aisle and enough patience to rival a saint. 🧽🫧💪

New classroom, new reading nook! 📚 While setting it up, I noted what I have found makes a great reading space in case anyone out there is looking for any inspiration!
In my mission to help children improve their writing without schools spending a fortune, I’ve developed these editing & proofreading mnemonics to include an animal rhyme for each letter. This will make the process more engaging for younger learners! 🐾✍️
The Writing Framework refers to ‘Revising’ & ‘Editing’ but I’ve found these confuse children in reality. I use ‘Editing’ & ‘Proofreading’ instead with mnemonics (inc. a hwg check). It’s worked well and I even wrote a blog on it if you want more info 🔗 teachersparkly.wordpress.com/2025/07/18/e...
Love that the Writing Framework values the writing process but I’ve adapted it to also include purpose, audience & text type. It’s made a big difference for the children I work with! Sharing my version here 👇📝 #PrimaryEd

Here’s my latest blog introducing the Writing Framework which I hope could be useful to anyone else trying to get their head around it. The infographic summary is also in the comments. teachersparkly.wordpress.com/2025/07/16/i... #edusky
THREAD 🧵 See what editing and proofreading writing looks like using my 2 simple mnemonics. Here is an example of how I use them in the classroom.
Sharing the editing and proofreading strategy I’ve developed to help children with this part of the writing process. Hoping the EDIT 👂🏻 and SPECS 👓 mnemonics can support anyone looking to make greater impact in this area. #Edusky

youtu.be/1Efrg23Sqe8?si… Recommend this short film (7 mins) to anyone looking for some World Book Day inspiration to share the benefits of reading in a child friendly way. I’ve used this in Primary School Assemblies before.
This year I’ve tried creating a visual timetable in the style of apps on an iPad. Just sharing in case anyone else would like a different way to present the essential visual timetable which helps so many children with their routines.
Friday 27th September - Happy National Teaching Assistants’ Day!
To all the amazing, wonderful and kind TAs, today is all about celebrating your brilliance!
Thank you!
TOP TIP! Want children to look at the board whilst you’re modelling something? Use fairy lights (in a gentle mode not too flashy) and turn them on at times where you want them to focus on what you’re doing on the board. #EduSky
Thank you to social media for making me discover the ✏️ 2 pencil ✏️ tubs idea 💡 ⭐️ in class! No more children gathered around the bin sharpening their pencils 🙌🏻 ! They just swap a blunt pencil for a sharp one and get straight on with their work! #PrimarySky #TinyVoicesTalk
Giving classroom helpers a lanyard to show their responsibilities for the week has really helped me so far this year as they take it very seriously and feel the importance much more when wearing these! Only places the lanyards don’t go to are breaks, lunches and the toilet! #PrimarySky
Good Morning ☀️! Mrs P here. Primary Teacher about to go into her 23rd year (next week). Literacy Lead ✏️ 📚 & with Year 3 next year. So wonderful connecting with everyone on the supportive platform of all things 🦋 ⛅️ blue sky. Already seen great ideas to learn from in just a few weeks. #TinyVoiceTalks
Building on my reel showing the different parts to learning to read, l've tried to create a reel to show what parents/carers can do to support their children in the skill of reading & developing enjoyment. Would you add anything else to this? Ideas always welcome! #PrimaryEduSky #PrimaryEnglish
This helps me to remember how to spell the 2 homophones stationery ✏️🖊️🖇️🗒️& stationary ✋ 🛑. I was thrilled it helped someone I was speaking to the other day. Do you have any favourite ways to remember how to spell certain words/homophones? #PrimaryEnglish #EduSky
That’s a really interesting Q & any ideas for why children are not choosing to read in their own time intrigues me esp. as they can be so keen in school.
NLT research was insightful in showing latest opinions about reading and now we can hopefully explore poss solutions.

With rfp being on the decline, creating a whole school core book list has been a great way to ensure that both staff and children are enthused about daily story times, as well as providing a ‘feast’ of different books. #PrimaryEnglish #EduSky #PrimaryEduSky
Thank you so much ☺️.
Thank you so much! ☺️
My Favourite Classroom Job titles.
2 children per job per week working my way through the whole class on a rolling programme throughout the year. I use the register so I don’t forget anyone! #EduSky #PrimaryEduSky
I totally agree - it’s so important. I saw this quote the other day about the need to teach reading skills and it really resonated with me.
I’ve found since doing this when introducing a text as part of a reading lesson that children have familiarised themselves with the text much quicker. Some children do it freely now when they get a new text which is great! #PrimaryEnglish #Edusky #PrimaryEduSky
