The Russo-Japanese War (1904–05) fueled Western demand for new images of a rapidly modernizing Japan.
Among the companies meeting this demand was H. C. White, which issued boxed stereoview sets of Japan highlighting both its cultural traditions and signs of modern progress. 🧵

Many thanks! I checked those out & all of them are also really nice (one would be split between Vermeer & Pulitzer!)
@andersnoren.bsky.social came across your beautiful site today! Is it a custom theme?
It is unbelievable - the things we can learn if we look out of our own boxes. Currently learning about front end publishing from wedding-websites 🥲🫶🏽 #digitalpublishing #digitalculture

So happy to see this essay come alive as part of our #OpenKnowledge editorial series supported by & in collab with @wikimediauk.bsky.social ! Thank you @camdiglib.bsky.social for sharing your collections!
This year the annual conference of #kulturBDigital takes place Oct 8 in #Berlin - folks from theatre / museums / libraries are welcome to join www.kultur-b-digital.de/kulturbdigit... - am also excited to host a workshop here that will probably contribute to a “Culture #Storytelling Stack”. 🙌🏽
In 2019, for some strange reason, I made an excel sheet of all the colleagues across #museums in EU, UK, South Asia while working on two popular #socialmedia “hashtag campaigns”. So glad to have rediscovered it today - nothing like the good old #spreadsheet.
The day has finally come to share something I’ve been working on for 2 years with the team at DicksonPoonSchool of Law @kingscollegelondon.bsky.social
I’m slowly going to come out of my social media slumber - but meanwhile, here’s the link

What about the “rapidly changing communities” is making you curious?
As several GenZ based studies show, there is shift towards switching off, towards balance, towards meaningful contribution… so how will any of this impact museum #contentstrategy?
The rise of the fediverse, the rise of networked platform based newsletters, in the backdrop of a motivated algorithm — how are #museums going to connect with, & #buildcommunities ?
Am sort of excited for the #InternationalMuseumDay theme this time. Even though I was skeptical about another deliberation on “future of museums” … it is the second part that has me motivated — “in rapidly changing communities”.

After attending a very interesting lecture, I had the opportunity to have a little coffee-chat with the speaker..the conversation flowed into open knowledge territory (his upcoming book will be OA) & then he said “Wikipedia! Who writes those pages - we can’t trust it right?”. Owwch.
One of the things that has pained me in the past has been #newsletters - creating, growing + reading the ones I subscribe to. So this month of March, I immersed myself into learning from the best, being inspired & taking my “irritation” (about museum newsletters) to “optimism”. 🌻
Nothing like the comfort of working with old partners! The team at WikiUK and I have been reaching out to GLAMs for our fellowship project ! I heard from an old partner institution (protocol wise, have to wait to share) who said “yes” hours into the email outreach 🥹🥹🥰
That “why are you working when you can play with me” look.

We’re teaming up with @wikimediauk.bsky.social ( it’s now Insta-official too 🥲) to bring fresh perspectives, & uncover untold stories related to South Asian collections housed in UK-based #GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums).

I sign my personal emails off with a signature that says “Always looking forward to working with good people and brave institutions” — it is difficult but possible to find these. 🥲 Super excited to announce a new collab with “good people” of a “brave” institution- an official statement tomorrow !
Repurposing tech can be interesting! Our #mememaker is popular with readers & so I wondered if we can use it for our critical thinking challenges! Lets see how it goes. For now, testing it with a #culturalxcollabs experiment inspired by our Insta-community!

#GLAM friends : Do you know any #museums who have a diverse digital audience acquisition & retention strategy(i.e beyond social media)? If your museum is doing that / thinking of it, am looking to talk to you!

What an exciting lineup, @janefinnis.bsky.social ! All the best 🙌🏽
A very random image — 1. Because no workshop is ever complete without post-its. 2. Because such photos are always a great way to share the “stuff you can’t share yet”.
Currently trying to answer to the big question of how cultural institutions can respond to the dynamic changes in digital work.
Finally — friends from X are here & Bluesky ain’t so lonely anymore 🎉😀
