Social media and group chats have microwaved the brains of the ruling and media class. They set that shit to POPCORN and let it go until it smelled like burning.

I’d love to pitch an article or whatever where John Flansburgh talks through every @tmbg.bsky.social album cover and the band’s evolving visual identity in context of the last 40 years of graphic design. There’d be 30-minute Tibor Kalman and Emigre detours, I can just feel it.

As a Year Zero superfan I’m pretty happy with him reconnecting with that album and REALLY sad that we’re… you know… living through it.

Boys Noize has shaved like 20 years off of Trent. Nine Inch Noize is transcendent, aggressive, danceable, and LOUD.

ChatGPT: you’re right you’re so much smarter than him. He’s so schlubby and you’re so suave. Columbo will never catch you.

Public Access Analog Horror Mystery TTRPG From the creator of Brindlewood Bay and The Between, Public Access is a roleplaying game inspired by analog and found footage horror!

I backed this not just because I’ve got a grip of lovely images in there (already fun), but because the product is cool, and more people need freaky analog horror in their lives. If you’re waiting till the last minute, that time is now! www.kickstarter.com/projects/gau...

Went to the new "vintage mall" in town and it's 95% AI Slop and that breaks my heart. Pure landfill garbage.

Just watched Witness for the first time. How the hell did I let that one slide by me? I gotta fill those Peter Weir gaps, man.

And god forbid the enrollment boom stops. What happens to those student units once they can’t be filled? They’re difficult to convert into multi-family units, and what incentive would the developer have to sink more cash into a conversion if they’re already losing money?

And this doesn’t even take into account the fact that wealthy parents are still coming in and paying cash to purchase single family rental units for their kids to live in during college, which squeezes the supply in that market too.

It almost serves as a closed system in terms of the price pressure on the multifamily rental market because those student units simply are not compatible with non-student living. So if the supply of those increases, it doesn’t magically make more units available for families.

Students are essentially a captive market, but are more or less transient. They must be housed, and the on-campus dormitories are artificially limited by a university unwilling or unable to build. Thus, the private companies come in and charge whatever out of town families are willing to pay.

Been living this in Northwest Arkansas with a parallel housing-build problem. Rapid population increase plus student housing developments are outpacing the residential developments (both single and multi-family) so rents are going bananas everywhere and maintaining the wild Covid price boom.
