I tried to minimize this in my designs (wip) where each stat upgrade gives a defined increase, while specializing makes some of those break points more potent. But there is so far never a point where increasing a stat has 0 mechanical effect.

I like this thread but this part really caught my eye since it explains something I don't like in D&D and other d20 systems.

A stats modifier being + for every 2 points above ten hits this same incremental feel, leaving potential stages at odd numbers where a stat increase means nothing.
