I'm also struggling to think what 90s/00s nostalgia bait would even *be*. The 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s all had distinct fashion, music, etc., but the 90s?
I'm a 90s teen, so I should be the prime target market for this, but how much nostalgia can you really mine from grunge rock and flannel shirts?
Perhaps the reason we're not seeing nostalgia bait for the 00s now is because people don't remember it fondly (post-9/11 fallout, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, global financial crisis...)
I assume nobody in the 1950s was creating nostalgia bait for the 30s Great Depression era for similar reasons?
Previously, nostalgia bait was on a 20 year cycle, presumably because that's how long it took for teenagers of one generation to grow up and become media creators.
Examples: Happy Days and Grease were made in the 70s and set in the 50s; That 70s Show was made in the 90s.
