🧵 New paper out🚨🧠! Information about motion is key to vision. Head motion signals from the vestibular system robustly modulate visual cortex activity. Despite this profound modulation, we still don’t know how these signals reach visual cortex - or even what aspects of head motion are transmitted.

Did not see this enough on my timeline so I am re-posting because this, and Teresa, deserve to be celebrated. An incredible accomplishment for an incredible person and researcher

Thrilled to see more attention given to the under appreciated contribution of vascular dysfunction in nearly all types of cognitive decline and dementia. An excellent review.

Mapping the visual cortex with Zebra noise and wavelets Studies of the early visual system often require characterizing the visual preferences of large populations of neurons. This task typically requires multiple stimuli such as sparse noise and drifting ...

Link above was broken for me so here is the one that worked for me in case anyone else has the same issue, very excited to read this (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...)

I constantly hear whispers and rumours that Kilosort4 is too permissive, too many "junk" units, but such claims never come with source attribution (just "I've heard that..." or "people are saying..."), do you have a feel for the curation rejection rate (ie false positives) for 4 versus 2 or 2.5?

🚨Thrilled to share our latest work with @alesz.bsky.social, N. Brunel, and M. Scanziani! In this study, we explored how head movement are encoded in mouse primary visual cortex and identified the main source of this signal reaching V1: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Contact Congress - American Brain Coalition 11/6/2024 » 11/15/2024Walt’s Waltz hosts Adult Mental Health First Aid

The NIH Brain Initiative was cut by 40% last year -- accidently! (long story) It's been supporting a lot of cutting edge neuroscience research, and a lot of those efforts were cut off. Please write Congress to restore funding, using this handy form: www.americanbraincoalition.org/page/Contact...

I just posted that sentence in the lab discord and accused Buzaski of being a novelist masquerading as a scientist. Tolstoy couldn't start a story better than that.

Can cerebellar reflexive learning shine a little light on ASD related dysfunction? For SCN2A, it sure looks like it. New paper from Chenyu Wang, in collaboration with Guy Bouvier and FamilieSCN2A:

Need sparse AAV expression in the cortex? Don't want to damage tissue with a pipette tract? Have a 2P sitting around? Then this paper is for you. Use optical opening of the BBB for titratable release of AAVs into the cortex.
