some people want to believe homelessness is about the moral failing of homeless people
some people want to believe that it's about the moral failing of capitalism
but the reason we see the *specific problem* of homelessness, people not having a home, really is mostly about housing!
Man, the only people who hate Mamdani more than right wingers has got to be every "progressive" mayor in the country who's getting absolutely lapped by this guy.
Yes, I am speaking directly to @mayorkwilson.bsky.social who's trying to give HUNDREDS of millions of dollars to a billionaire right now.
I donβt love the name but the podcast is excellent. I really enjoyed the episode with Vivek Chibber on socialism:

Transportation politics is about dragging people kicking and screaming into change that results fairly quickly in a widespread consensus that we can't imagine going back to the way it was before.

People come up with complicated reasons why art/music scenes are less vibrant now but it is like 90% just this
Love how these advocates call the bluff on the dubious reasoning behind removing beloved diverter-lite planters: just bolt the damn things to the ground and keep it pushing.

Every car in your city represents $8-12K/year being sucked out of your local economy instead of being spent on housing, goods & services.
I wish more parking-obsessed retailers & elected officials understood this.

Funding the blazers with PCEF is actually just straight up robbery.
No climate $ for billionaires. No climate $ for cops.
We are trusting y'all to put a firm stop to this: @candaceavalos.bsky.social @councilorgreen.bsky.social @councilormorillo.bsky.social @councilorkanal.bsky.social
Street transformation from car space to street willed with people including kids
Itβs not just about what you remove (cars, noise, dirty air). Itβs about what you add (people walking, a lot of bike parking, trees, outdoor dining, and room for kids to play safely). Amsterdam: 1986 and today.
Streets for people.
HT @hackneycyclist.bsky.social for the great before-and-after

Every time I see city officials who want to raid the climate fund for XYZ project, I wonder to myself what could get done if the ultra wealthy paid their fair share.
(Also, taking taxes on large retailers to pay a billionaire for a sports stadium is humorous.)

I don't post enough about the other central pillar of my politics, aside from anti fascism: being anti car
cars are bad in almost every way, especially in cities
if you go to even large, bustling cities that are actually dense, they are quieter than US cities because you can get away from cars
