Everyone with a stake in a software system should have the right to understandable answers for their questions about the (inside of the) system.

Have very much been enjoying Shining Pearl, all of the nostalgia plus the good features of the modern games (much easier to manage TMs & HMs)

On volume 11 of 12 of the Histories of Middle Earth, The War of the Jewels.

Goal was to read all 12 this year before tackling the Silmarillion then finally rereading LOTR for the first time in over a decade.

"They have no certainty and no knowledge, only fears, or dreams in the dark," answered Andreth.

"But hope? Hope, that is another matter, of which even the Wise seldom speak."

welcome to all new bluesky users. please keep in mind that it is still in beta. there are many features still missing, so please be patient. for example, you may notice that this app loads posts and then shows them to you, instead of not doing that for some reason.

Speeding up Postgres Queries by 200x with Analyze Postgres uses an internal table called ‘pg_statistic’ to keep track of some metadata on all tables in the DB. Postgres’s Planner uses these statistics when estimating the cost of operations, which, if out of date, can cause the Planner to pick a suboptimal plan for our query. To trigger an update of ‘pg_statistic’ manually for a table, we can run ‘ANALYZE’ on it, helping the Planner estimate costs better and speeding up queries dramatically (in some cases).

I was debugging a slow PostgreSQL query in my BSky database today and learned something new about DB Query Planning that sped up my slow query by ~207x .

tl:dr; Run ANALYZE on your tables if you are under-estimating cost.

You can read about it here - https://jazco.dev/2023/05/20/postgres-analyze/
