"Reform's manifesto for the Senedd election says the party will tell museums how to display history if it wins, saying they will present events in chronological order and "in context"."
So, History Reclaimed but in government.
History without rigour, compassion, or reflection.

More on the state of British academia.
Such cruelty and brutalisation effected through these processes that are dismantling disciplines and universities in the face of governmental indifference
Could it possibly be the same essay in this vol? Maybe this will be in the BL for same day www.cambridge.org/core/books/a...
There are currently 6 permanent full time history jobs in the whole UK. 500+ PhDs being produced a year - not all of whom will want to pursue an academic year but likely most, and of course years will stack up onto each other. What a sector.
Come join us in person or online in York next week for @emmawhipday.bsky.social and what will no doubt be a brilliant talk on the 'curious cultural absence' of wicked stepfathers in #earlymodern England, through a reading of Claudius in Hamlet. I can't wait! Sign up belowπ ποΈ

Came here also to recommend @eparpillee.bsky.social !
i like to pretend i'm not an ego-driven person, but the fact that our first years still clap at the end of lectures gives me a nice buzz to get through the rest of the day π
right? π
Congratulations to you all! Look forward to hearing all about it!
Screenshot of a footnote to reference a point made in an academic journal article, "Data based on author's research".
What a footnote! So helpful! πποΈ
Congratulations!
The victory of the opposition in Hungary yesterday, like the Polish election in 2023, is a victory for democracy, not just in Europe but around the world.

Title page of Purchas His Pilgrimes - top left of this third of it here. He is a cleric. I'd like to think preach based on what I know about him and the purpose of the volumes etc
π
Latinist colleagues: 'Sic Mare, sic Terras fero et offero; praedico Caelumβ - how we translating praedico? Preach? Proclaim? Predict? The dictionary's not helping here. (Can I attempt to decide based on the context? Lol?!)
hahaha it's like you know me well! πππ

yes - but I have changed my mind now and just doing u/v i/j as i'd originally intended, haha
Ah yes I have a full draft - was just in the process of silently modernising i/j v/u as directed by the editor when I randomly thought "I'LL GO THE WHOLE HOG" but then as you'll note I immediately changed my mind π
(as my next post exclaimed i basically immediately changed my mind, just in case you hadn't seen it lol)
yeah right? for me it dawned on me that when my entire argument is about listening to writing that we should probably listen to it as it was written π
have also abandoned ship and just doing the i/j v/u as I'd originally intended π
**HOLDS DOWN THE UNDO BUTTON**
PSA I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND NEARLY IMMEDIATELY π
and am leaving archaic grammar/words!
haha right? i'm yet to deal with the couple of sentences of latin i've just left untranslated atm for this reason... (and they're in the last part of the little book i've not got to yet lol)
correcting attayneth to attaineth feels... not right. hmm. maybe i need to stop and just do the u/v i/j as I'd originally intended?!?!
