One of my favorite original #MonsterInAGlass episodes: the #MintJulep. We told the Kentucky Derby story, how it escaped attack by the temperance movement and made Kentucky a Southern state

Was the Bartholdi Cocktail the original Stinger? "Green Mint" was likely Creme de Menthe, since fresh mint wasn't really referred to as "green".
From the New York Evening Telegram, January 15, 1891. See alt-text, which in the case of 135-year-old newsprint is helpful for all.
In this #MiaG #Reanimator @libation-legacy.bsky.social reveals that the Southeast Asia origin story for the #Stinger is a common misconception and the drink likely got named after a jab in boxing. Plus we see the Vanderbilts once again

It makes sense. Campari was, as I have been told, very popular with Americans in Europe and I remember Jay noting the seeming strange rise of Campari at that time. We didn't have context then. I'm seeing the bigger picture for that rise now

AOC: What we saw today was a criminal murder a woman while she was trying to flee for her life. What we saw today was a manifestation of every American’s worst nightmare: their government turning into a tyranny.
This is a vetted fundraiser for the family of Renee Good, the woman who was killed by ICE in Minneapolis.

Who will be the first member of Congress to introduce legislation named after Renee Good that abolishes DHS?
The #Boulevardier is
1.5 oz bourbon
1 oz Campari
1 oz sweet vermouth
If I'm in a mood I will trade these with Negroni's throughout an event

From the New Orleans Times-Picayune, October 31, 1843 Progress of Temperance--We have before us a bill of fare of a Boston restaurant, in which the following "fancy drinks" are set forth in large letters as always on hand. It beats anything that can be done in this temperate lattitude:-- Plain Mint Julip Fancy Ditto Mixed Ditto Peach Ditto Orange Ditto Pineapple Ditto Claret Ditto Capped Ditto Strawberry Ditto Arrack Ditto Race Horse Ditto Sherry Cobbler Rochelle Ditto Arrack Ditto Peach Ditto Claret Ditto Tip and Ty Fiscal Agent Veto I.O.U. Tippe Na Pecco Moral Suasion Vox Populi Ne Plus Ultra Shambro Pig and Whistle Citronella Jam Egg-Nogg Sargent Silver Top Poor Man's Punch Arrack Punch Iced Punch Spiced Punch Epicure's Punch Milk Punch Peach Punch Cherry Punch Jewett's Fancy Deacon Exchange Stone Wall Virginia Fancy Knickerbocker Smasher Floater Sifter Soda Punch Soda Mead
This was an example of Jewett's philosophy of "moral suasion," achieving temperance via social pressure, as opposed to legislation. It backfired when the press picked up on it and began to publish an update to the list, including drinks named after Jewett & his Moral Suasion. Citation in alt-text.
Peter Bent Brigham opened an oyster saloon in the Boston Concert Hall in 1836 which featured new drinks that became very popular, including the Knickerbocker

The earliest mention of a drink named Knickerbocker comes from the December 1842 edition of the Journal of the American Temperance Union, where it was included in a list of drinks served at the Peter B. Brigham's Oyster Saloon at the Concert Hall in Boston. Doctor Jewett attempted to shame Brigham.
The #Knickerbocker is an early beverage joining with the oyster bar craze in the early 1800s. @libation-legacy.bsky.social describes an American entrepreneur opening a popular oyster bar garnering attention their cocktails.

For a while the #ParkAvenue train was running in an open pit, but as such it was a public safety concern
player.captivate.fm/episode/cd37...
#BlackLiverProject #MonsterInAGlass #Reanimator #cocktail #history
From your research, did the drink start in East Asia or did it travel there and then gain popularity?
19th century #ParkAvenue was a lot rougher than the swanky street we know today. Originally it was a major route for trains
