The state of clinical psychotherapy and "mid-levels (derogatory)" has been a psychologist nightmare for a while now. It's a pretty common problem where practitioners push e.g. reiki or purple hat therapies like EMDR. Recovered memory stuff also refuses to die.
A lot of people are suckered into thinking of therapy like basically a confessional space—which takes them towards the scummier therapists. Evidenced therapy tries to build skills and awareness but ultimately depends on the patient being able and willing to engage with changing their frameworks.
