Have you seen any resources on how corporate comms strategies might differ from what science & conservation orgs might need?
I'm not quite enough of a comms pro to articulate the difference, but whenever we work w outside firms I get this feeling that it isn't quite right & just do it myself haha.
Im always interested in how these unforced errors undercuts an organizations ability to communicate & how it takes away from their message.
I remember having an AIS piece go out about trout anglers but the comms staff put a picture of a nonnative trout w/the article. Quickly moved the focus off AIS

Message frames and metaphors are commonly used within science communication to discuss complex topics, including invasive species. While these communication tools are undoubtedly helpful, the ecological process of invasion juxtaposed with the use of militaristic and nativist language can have unintended consequences that are counterproductive to management efforts. Species naming conventions are likewise complex, with some species bearing names that may reinforce xenophobic concepts or contain racial slurs. Despite the known need, there have been limited national efforts to develop better and more inclusive guidelines for invasive species communication...

I grew up in Iowa & a regret is that I never rode RAGBRAI b/c I was "too busy" racing & training. The atmosphere is A+. Each community the route goes through comes out & the whole experience is an ideal version of midwest summer. You'll have fun. & maybe, somehow, gain weight through it all.
Could invasive carp show up in the Wisconsin River? Middle schoolers learn to test for them.

Who: Professional level experts in the field are invited to participate in a review process for the Great Lakes Aquatic Nonindigenous Species Information System. What: The GLANSIS database provides information on exclusively aquatic nonindigenous species in the entire Laurentian Great Lakes region regardless of national or state-level boundaries. GLANSIS does not provide data on reptiles, amphibians, or waterfowl, since they spend substantial portions of their lives outside the water. The database also includes facultative wetland plants in its target species. GLANSIS formally requests your participation in an external review process that will assist in the publishing of risk and impact assessments as well as species profiles that appear in the GLANSIS database. Each assessment and profile document follows a rigorous review process requiring two external reviews by subject matter experts before being published on the GLANSIS website. Materials provided for review will have already gone through the required NOAA internal review. When & Where: February 14-March 6 (independent review) Thursday Mar 6, 2025 (virtual event) How: The GLANSIS team will provide you with your assigned assessments and profiles by February 14. We will need all reviews completed by March 5. On the day of the virtual event, each species will be presented for discussion and approval. You are welcome to attend the entire event if you wish, but are required only to attend the segments of the agenda relevant to your assigned species. In addition to the assigned reviewers (2 per species), the virtual event will be open to any researcher, manager, or student who wishes to contribute data or information about these species. Honorarium: Your time and expertise are valuable. We can provide each reviewer with a $200 honorarium for your time and expertise in this review process.
