FYI. This is an easy walk to do from a logistics point of view thanks to both ends having great public transport connections! Staveley & Kendal both see train services from Northern & bus services from Stagecoach

This morning I woke up at the crack of dawn and headed out for a 17 mile walk from Staveley to Kendal via Sadgill!
Felt like the first signs of summer was starting to make an appearances this morning. I even wore shorts!

Bonkers that Ulverston station is staffed 0500 to 0015! Bonkers in a good way that is, staffed stations are safe stations, not to mention more accessible stations!

An 80 minute connection at Carnforth means one thing… beer o’clock!
Pub across the road benefitting from the fact a barrow train departs 5 minutes before ex Leeds train arrives.

Should have been on northern from here direct to Leeds… Sadly the train I was on to Nottingham lost time which led to me missing my connection here!
This EMR train with no power or WiFi will take me to Sheffield! Pray for my battery that’s on 8% with mobile ticket on it 😬

Not long left for this units in England! Soon to be transferred to Scotrall to replace the end of life HSTs.

Gotta avoid them WCML engineering works! First up EMR connect to Kettering.
Given Bedford is start point of the Thameslink stoppers I do think Bedford should be a calling point for EMR intercity services 🤷♂️

Good morning from Bletchley where I have found a Chris from RailFocus!
Heading onto the lovely Marston Vale Line.
Credit where it’s due though… the Avanti West Coast staff on the platform was been very helpful with passengers and the onboard LNWR guard on the 1932 off Stafford is been great on the tannoy explaining delay repay and how to claim!
Next stop… MK!

At Stafford and it’s gone bit wrong. That’s my train going fast through Stafford. Departed Crewe 17L so had several stops ripped out 😒.
Really not a fan of stops getting ripped out of services. But hey ho, at least there is a decent waiting room here and friendly staff!

At 8pm last night I randomly decided to head to Milton Keynes today! But with the WCML closed north of Preston it got me looking at some interesting routing to get there…
First up, the twice a week bus to Kirkby Stephen from Kendal!

And like that… I’m back in Ulverston! 14 hours later than planned, but these things happen.
One thing has impressed me on this trip, that’s how amazing the staff have been! It really does make things easier when staff are being helpful and understanding!
