noita was mentioned in another reply, yea! definitely feels like it could be one
ahh yes la mulana! might be the most evil one lol
also i love playing with the Touys.. one of my favorite aspects of these games is that theres often a stimmy little puzzle solving toy to play with at any given time and animal well has this in spades
ahh right ive heard lorelei & the laser eyes suggested before! also gotta check that out..
as for return of the obra dinn, id say it isnt knowledge-based progression in the same way, and rather is just a straight detective game. Very good game though and has a similar situation wrt replay value lol
i watched a playthrough of antichamber a while ago it looks quite cool... i feel like ive seen contention over whether or not it is one? but those people could be wrong ehe im unqualified to say.... overall i think the feeling it instills in you is very important too
guhhh its so good, even beyond the esoteric puzzle elements the atmosphere is incredible, down to the color palette
noted..!
i havent played noita myself either but having seen a lot about it it absolutely feels like one too yeah! roguelikes i feel are slightly set apart but it definitely has the vibe
i feel like this could be argued but i havent heard it done before, and theres a distinction in my mind... its weird that part of this subgenre's definition in my mind is based on Vibe lol.. roguelikes feel a bit different, even if they can be cryptic learning experiences, but they Can have the vibe
i have not!! ill have to look into em
most of the similarities as i understand it are from "figuring out the rules of the world".. in animal well's case thats mostly optional/endgame/postgame puzzle stuff, it otherwise has typical metroidvania progression
ive meant to play it, its definitely on the list ehe ill pick it up when i can
for real >< the language solving was my absolute favorite part, very proud of figuring it out on my own....
for that aspect of it, there are some other language solving games ive heard good things about! chants of sennar and heaven's vault apparently
nevertheless..... i want to make one..........
mentioned in the other reply!
outer wilds, tunic, fez, void stranger, animal well
people also say the witness (havent played it) and blue prince (unsure; also havent played it)
i recently played a demo for a game called nonolith that is definitely aiming to be one too, its not out yet though
then again i suppose that adds to how special they feel
cannot stop thinking about knowledge-based progression games lately.. it sucks that theres only Five of them so far
