In an #OpEd, narrative medicine scholar @sayantani.bsky.social breaks down how the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle campaign controversy relates to medicine. www.medpagetoday.com/popmedicine/...
“The scientific community can and must challenge pseudoscientific justifications for hate, racism and bias.” Thank you @medpage @gfriedman for inviting me to comment on the viral TikTok I made on eugenics and the American Eagle Jean campaign. www.medpagetoday.com/popmedicine/....

"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging."
Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.
I wrote about my decision in TIME.

Every creative person I’ve talked to had that same reaction (as did I) Coogler is doing his work he was meant to do, I better do mine!
Same! Happy Mother’s Day to me 🙃
We are disappointed for Texas teens that Tx House just passed HB3225. This would restrict Tx teenagers from using adult books in the library, including classic novels. Pregnant teens can't access books on childbirth. 250 years of libraries in this country without age restrictions until now. Scary.
To quote @joshthelibromancer.bsky.social among many: if we can free one, we can free them all.
A blue graphic with white text that says: "for every child, peace". There is a UNICEF logo in the bottom right corner.
Children pay the highest price in war and violence.
#ForEveryChild, peace and protection.
Dr. Carla Hayden has done more for literacy and readers, has gotten more books into kids' hands and onto their home bookshelves than you can even imagine. Make calls, please. Demand that she be allowed to finish her ten-year term next year.

Mehmet Oz channeling his eugenic ancestors.
The installation in this photo was set up at a "Fitter Families" contest in 1926, and draws the same explicit connections between health, the nation and patriotism that Mehmet does here.
Have a read through what it says.

It's nice to see elected representatives visiting their constituents who have been detained by ICE but may I respectfully suggest university presidents consider doing the same
North Dakota! Censorship bill SB 2307 passed in the legislature so now we need to focus on pressuring the Governor to veto www.righttoreadnd.org/vetosb2307
Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants
the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever
they aren’t going into universities’ endowments
they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research
NEW: Trump said government cuts wouldn’t affect public safety. But staffing changes at the Forest Service have weakened an already strained firefighting force by hitting support staff who play crucial roles in preventing and battling blazes.
It’s too much to bear. Every time my card clicks green and I weave my way through the gauntlet of kettle you in fences only to go teach about speculative fiction it feels surreal
I don’t think people are paying enough attention to the fact that the North Carolina court of appeals just ruled that 65,000 votes don’t count, and that the Republican Supreme Court candidate who lost actually won.
This will be appealed, but make no mistake: they’re trying to steal this election.

Cory Booker will break the record for longest Senate floor speech at 7:19 PM EDT. Fewer than 2 hours from now. The record is held by Strom Thurmond, who was arguing for segregation. GO CORY, GO!
Boosting: if you use a public library in the US and use Libby, Hoopla, or interlibrary loan, or have family and friends who do- that funding may be gone as IMLS is dismantled by DOGE. 🗃️
Are you listening? It’s the least you can do.
Powerful, substantive, passionate. A clarion call to stand.
