1️⃣ Contextualizar el conflicto → evaluación regional y local (entrevistas y grupos focales);
2️⃣ Seleccionar la intervención → priorización basada en efectividad, factibilidad y costo;
3️⃣ Evaluarla → ensayo controlado aleatorizado;
4️⃣ Implementarla → despliegue completo y monitoreo.

Our framework integrates qualitative and quantitative approaches to create context-sensitive solutions to wildlife impacts on people (and subsequent HWCs).
⚠️ As HWCs are complex and multicausal, it also helps uncover broader social & ecological drivers.
🌍 It can be adapted to other contexts & HWIs.

The community selected studded leather collars to protect goats and sheep.
🐐 In the RCT, uncollared animals were 10 times more likely to be attacked.
📉 After applying collars to most livestock of the participant families, depredation rates dropped by half compared to the RCT stage.

Framework stages & methods:
1️⃣ Contextualize the conflict → regional (interviews) + local (focus group) assessment;
2️⃣ Select an intervention → prioritization based on effectiveness, feasibility, and cost;
3️⃣ Evaluate it → RCT;
4️⃣ Implement it → full deployment & monitoring.

We present a four-stage participatory framework to address wildlife impacts on people and emerging conflicts.
We applied it to the case of small livestock depredation by pumas in a community of the Argentine Dry Chaco, to select and test an intervention for the first time in the region.
