If there are folks who would like to design a couple of "FUND OUR LOCAL PUBLIC LIBRARIES" posters, holler at me at niapoetry@gmail.com and please tell me your rate for this. Poster size would be 11 by 17 landscape size.

I need to print some posters for a forthcoming event.

One day I'd like to program a double feature of Princesse Tam-Tam (Edmond T. Gréville, 1935) and Black Girl (Ousmane Sembène, 1966). Both films are about the movement of a young Black woman from a French colony or post-colony in Africa (Tunisia in Tam-Tam, Senegal in Black Girl) to France.

Fair enough, I've lived in France as well. I think they're a culture that understands joy and pleasure and but also that "happiness" is fleeting. And they definitely don't worry much about being cheerful, which as someone from LA was difficult at first but ultimately good to experience.

This. Also, the French and certain other cultures are not happy either but they are not looking to be.

I agree w/ you although we're the minority apparently. It's worth defining happiness for the sake of clarity but no, USians are not happy. Oh we're great at the PURSUIT of it. But a culture this individualistic, awash w/big T & little t traumas due to systemic inequities, happy? Absolutely not.

This is a reminder that you can still ask real people for advice and recommendations. You don't have to ask the robot for everything. In fact there are some things you definitely should not be asking the robot about.

many of us no longer have access to songs of mourning,so we have Blink 182, or some other modern song.the sincerity of grief needs some way to know itself whether an aria or a pop song. I know the loss never goes away but I hope your days get easier.

They Thought It Was Burnout or Aging. It Was ADHD. A wave of midlife diagnoses in women is revealing the disorder’s hormonal link.

"They had managed to get through college, graduate school, nursing school, law school… They developed systems to elicit focus — spreadsheets, schedules, repetition — and once on task, they could do nothing else for hours or days."

June Jordan, like Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman , and others who are also fighting for the rights of their communities to live, gladly paid the price in order to support Palestine.

Fannie Lou Hamer was June Jordan’s mentor and role model— Jordan often stayed at Hamer's home as did many others.

what if we normalized mental/emotional/social health checkups like physical checkups? just quick meeting once a year, covered by health insurance. Oh a referral for therapy? would you like maybe career counseling? you're feeling sad but you think it's reasonable level, shall we check in in 3 months?

YES! All too often there's a "just be grateful you're alive" kind of thinking that I've seen to people navigating disabilities. I believe that the search & experience of pleasure helps us uncover new strategies& technologies for better individual and collective living. Thank you for the work you do!

It’s inaccurate to say Mario is brave and Luigi is cowardly

Luigi is afraid of death, so he runs away from danger. Mario is afraid of living, so he runs towards death. Both brothers are cowards in their own way

In this digital illustration, three baby dragons are sheltered from rain by their gigantic mama dragon. They are on a rooftop in front of a cityscape. The babies gaze up at their mom, smiling.

“I really want to hold onto the distinction between someone who is actually my enemy and someone who is talking out of their ass, or making me mad right now, or who has hurt me, or become my opponent in a particular moment. Those are not all the same thing. And if I start treating them as though they are, that distorts my politics and makes me worse at navigating conflict. When I am dealing with my own communities, my responses actually help define, not only who I am, but who I am in relation to those people, and if I am treating them like the enemy anytime we disagree, I am going to become their enemy, whatever my intentions are.” - Kelly Hayes

If you have to admit it's a reference from Black American culture, the next step is being forced to admit that Black Americans HAVE a culture. One that is separate and produced for ourselves out of love and not for the comfort and entertainment of non-black people.

A lot of people don't like that.
