Testing. Does everyone here see my handle the same as before? I noticed just now on my profile page that it had “Invalid handle”. I went into the settings and set it to my original handle and it seems fine now… weird.

Thanks for visiting and for the excellent talk! It was great to catch up!
Really? Nobody?
This new dog toy provides infinite levels of fun!
I say this with nothing but nostalgic respect for my formative days as a meteorology student using WXP at Purdue but:

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the dark side of the moon and the far side of the moon are two different concepts. Far side: side always facing away from Earth. Dark side: always changing as the moon rotates on its axis once every 27.3 days. They coincide only when the moon is full.
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

This essay is fantastic. It articulates almost perfectly my feelings about both the promises and pitfalls of generative AI in scientific work. So many excellent points, but to sum up: genAI can be a great tool, but cannot replace true learning that comes from trying (and failing) at doing science.

I credit my time playing Kerbal Space Program with the fact that I actually understood why you need to burn prograde at apogee to raise one’s perigee ;) #Artemis
👀
That being said, even if I did, I would have pulled off somewhere to watch the Artemis II launch!
To everyone in Houston and beyond that played a role in getting Artemis off the ground, congratulations and thank you.
For a brief moment, I can remember what we can accomplish when we feed our best natures instead of our worst!
LIFTOFF!!!!
It was great to visit Norman and catch up with some friends and colleagues at the VORTEX-USA workshop. On the plane now just as a tornado watch was issued. Wish I could stay and chase!
Congratulations Alex!!!
Fun fact. Lived in Saudi Arabia for a time as a child. Didn’t do much stormchasing.
Me: Runs a quick-and-dirty idealized supercell simulation of a case just to see if it’ll work.
Result: Simulation looks amazingly close to real storm.
Me: Realizes that I made a mistake in some namelist parameter or another, fixes it, and runs it again.
Result: Storm looks like garbage…
Omg perfect
Though AMS Annual is still fresh in our minds, the abstract deadline for deadline for the @ametsoc.org Madison Summit is rapidly approaching. With that in mind, I'm excited to share our joint session hosted between @ams-sls-stac.bsky.social & Cloud Physics! (1/2) ⛈️🌧️❄️
