I'm in basically a permanent eye roll over the concept of The Miniature Wife, but today I'm thinking about something my pastor said. 1/

With posts like these you truly are the GLaDOS of academia. You can put that in your bio.

The Confucians have told me to take care of my family. I sent them a letter asking if there was something easier I could do since I'm just a beginner. They haven't replied :(

Always knew him as Sherlock Holmes. When I saw him in a modern interview with a modern earring on his ear, my brain went "WHAT" Like he actually time traveled here to be with us.

Yes. I feel like it is in line with Mr Beast's persona to turn to an underling & say "go fetch me someone with constructive criticism & do not worry about their criticism being harsh, we can take it"
But they cannot! If they took his advice of "Change your core values" nothing of them would remain

Why was Dr. Robby so mean in season 2 of #ThePitt ? & Why did other characters address it only through the lens of "you have a martyr complex"?

My theory is that the writers decided he would be going through the 5 stages of grief over the course of five seasons. Season 1 was Denial. S2 was Anger

His videos make me stare into the abyss of capitalism and they provide some kind of gloomy consolation: I feel consoled that someone has perfectly articulated its ills, and that I therefore know more about how the world works & what empty hype is perfectly safe to avoid.

A sith (darth maul) meditating in the lotus pose, and darth siduous congratulating him on his "stilness and quiet". The drawing evokes a blend of rage and stilness with destroyed buildings in the background and stark red and black colours

Props to them for reaching that level of dark mindfulness. They truly put in the hours with their evil meditation practice.

Anyway, I am not exactly in the same position as you, so take my testimony with a grain of salt.

The only danger I can think of is if you prep sessions for your workshops... and so you come to associate prepping sessions with doing work. Then, you couldn't stand the sight of yet another goblin!

I feel like you're safe if, like me, you don't need to theorize about the hobby to do the hobby.
I got fed up with DnD discourse after consuming only that for a while. & for a bit I got fed up with mindfulness theorizing because of research. But I never became fed up with *playing* or *meditating*

Yes ! This is amazing ! I love falcons. We have a couple of church towers around here and I keep looking at them wistfully, wishing for a falcon to make their nest there. That university is so lucky to have this.

The Cloud of Unknowing In March 2026, I practiced a form of contemplative meditation called “the Cloud of Unknowing”, described in a work of the same name, which...

Every month, I try a new philosophical exercise and I write about it on my blog. This time, I read and practiced the Cloud of Unknowing. An exercise in Christian mysticism. A very creative kind of "non-meditation". #philtwit #philsky

Helen De Cruz, In the Mood: Why Vibes Matter in Reading and Writing Philosophy - PhilArchive Philosophers often write in a particular mood; their work is playful, strident, strenuous, or nostalgic. On the face of it, these moods contribute little to a philosophical argument and are merely ...

Helen de Cruz argued that you have to be in a certain mood to enjoy a work of continental philosophy that is playing on that mood. However, I'd say continental philosophy contains many different paradigms. Access to one does not put you in the mood for another.

Nice to see that philosophers complained about each other's style at least as far back as Socrates and Heraclit - and with much the same arguments, too

I just discovered a writing advice sub-reddit and it's so fun. Everything from "how do I write up the human condition" to "how do I get two horses on a boat".

A good measured response. Two great qualities here: 1) you're undoing a lot bad associations of ideas (prejudices, and knee-jerk defensiveness), 2) you're taking the time to provide a sort of "if you trust me, give these texts a chance" testimony that I think might be really valuable to people

If someone asks me to explain abstruse continental philosophy, can I answer "It's not my job to educate you" in an indignant militant tone of voice, or is that too weird?

I cannot help but feel that continental philosophy has good-making features.

Hey, fellow philosophers, we can't let that happen, right? We can't start talking about "great-making properties" when we mean that X makes Y "great". Or "bad-making features" "good-making" when something is bad or good. What is the point of that phrasing? (two different authors, anonymized)

Consolation came in the form of the people who clicked like on this post, and also in the form of listening to the Very Bad Wizard Podcast talk about Schopenhauer's pessimism and his criticism of ceaseless striving. Nothing better to soothe the weary soul.
