May I introduce you to the book series that's been picked up for a future TV series/film series something....
Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Just don't read it in front of your kids. Or their gramma. Or people.

For a few years now, despite having incredibly expensive Orbi routers and amazing internet service... my smart home has been failing. It turned out the problem was a limit nearly every consumer router has. And the solution was cheaper than I realized.

Her name was "Imaginary Woman."
I mean yeah... but also that's still less than a Disney trip.
Yesterday, my clock was featured as the top story in the Instructables newsletter. Pretty stoked about that!

This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here:
huge success.
This has been.. I think six months in the making. You know when you start a project going, "this'll be easy" and it just spirals? And yet the final project just looks so simple and clean? I do now. And I'm really proud of how it came out.

Next video up is some DIY goodness. Coming soon!
Best solution I've found for the Liquid Glass look is to go into Settings > Accessibility and turn on Reduce Transparency.
Won't fix the garbage keyboard getting every key press wrong alas.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
I have no words, because among the many many many people affected by this... they laid off Lizzie Johnson... while she's still on assignment in the Ukraine. In the middle of a warzone. If you can, consider donating.

Some actual YouTube Guru advice I just saw on LinkedIn (the use AI to brag about your business skills social network).
"Quality > Quantity, so post once a week."
If you're a new YouTuber, the best piece of advice I can give you is to block every YouTube Guru channel.

Nothing confirms that nothing is coming, but don't worry there will be some tweaks to the Nothing.
Here's my CES Omnibus video. Don't miss two major points: first an AI product that is seven levels of disgusting (from a company that won awards for its kid product a few years back) and the best product in the show due to actually solving a problem.

Outside: 14 inches of snow, most of the roads are unuseable, they only just lifted the level 3 emergency.

The only thing that would give me more confidence that this will ever be real is if Elon Musk promised a release date.

And that's before getting into the usual, "oh you want an accessory to work with your iPhone properly? Gotta get the Apple made one."
Even if those glasses weren't Facebook branded, having a display in one eye messes with you. Almost like our brain expects our eyes to agree on what they see...
It feels like we're so close ... there's some real interesting attempts at great smart glasses. But all of them have some kind of compromise that keeps them from every day average person use. Huge stems, eye glare issues, stilted software, and more. Maybe soon though...
I want smart glasses to be a thing so much, but the more I play with them the more I realize that we're just not quite there. The tech we need is **just** outside our reach right now, and even when you nail that... the software that powers them is crucial. Getting every facet right is difficult.
Thanks to hydrogen! Wooooo!
Hydrogen. Powered. Water.

Coming at you CES! Almost didn’t come this year, but some pretty late invites changed my mind.
Of course, the next trick is.. figuring out what's next. My older videos are doing well. But recent stuff has stalled, not sure why. I don't think the quality has dropped, but here we are. YouTubing is an ever constant question of, "how do I improve" or "fix" or "iterate" and so on.
In other cool news, Anoraker broke 1.5 million views today. Pretty happy with that.
Wow so Ars Technica is hiring.
I love and adore what I've built on YouTube.
But when I originally started writing for a living it was with a dream of someday writing for Ars.
Hm.

Picked up a taco kit at Meijer yesterday and made it today. It tasted like poison. Checked the box and it’s expired by over a year. What the heck Meijer?
Man if only Microsoft would make a phone. Some kind of Windows phone. I bet that'd have good camera and battery life.
Some sort of tiled like interface that puts all other mobile OS's to shame.
If only.

I mean honestly, what I've been saying for years is "what I really want is a phone that has a camera bump just as thick as the rest of the phone's body."
