Anti-communist panic has become a feature of the ‘no’ campaign over the Voice referendum. This ABC investigation shows that some circles are reviving an old Australian League of Rights book claiming that Aboriginal Land Rights were a secret communist plot.

@mgerrydoyle.bsky.social you don’t know what you are messing with. delete your post before the big leaf machine comes for you…
there’s loads of others that come to mind, but that dialogue is so funny to me
of course he's the fucking farmer!
welcome!
once heard ridiculous apocrypha that the similar, lesser used London slang “nang” once referred to a specific person: a now legendary girl of Vietnamese origin idolised by her classmates in north London and beyond
and more for the file! (cc @tancopsey.bsky.social @neilwarner.bsky.social)
On the one hand, China is not smoothly top down and technocratic -- vertical and horizontal fragmentation abounds. But on the other, this is interesting. Add to the (quite large) file marked: FT being more open to straightforwardly discussing leftwing economic arguments than most would expect
Not a romantic exclave tail that wags the geopolitics. Couldn’t be clearer really

eating a raw salmon straight from an ice cold stream has always looked very appealing to me

Have Overcast users (@samuelwade.bsky.social ?) found that some podcast feeds no longer update? Any reason why? And what’s the best alternative app?
Perhaps the relevant differentiation is “response” to climate change vs *leadership*. IMHO the first test of climate leadership should be solidarity with those most affected, and the more specific we can be about what that looks like, the better.
One of the many ways climate change is a wicked problem is that in response to crisis, many governments are happy to turn inward. The idea that anyone should be reducing an aid ('aid') budget now is ridiculous. The idea that development needs should compete with each other, more so.
ironic, since he never made it to the Big City
i don’t think that’s where the IRA Biden bucks are going to flow. (also welcome to Bluesky)
putting aside control of the upstream (mining), i don’t think we should underestimate how difficult it would be to relocate or onshore a massive, energy and capital intensive, polluting industry like refining, which operates on incredibly thin profit margins
it’s a good episode in general. not somewhere i’ve ever really thought about visiting but he explores some interesting sides of the place
