This has to be the quietest nostalgia train ride I've ever had! Empty seats, really does feel more like an average subway ride now

A group of men dressed in vintage US military outfits outside the holiday nostalgia train. They are mobbed by a crowd and photographers taking their photo
Really sad to hear that the last Holiday Train won't run tomorrow, every week feels like a new adventure on the train. Walking down the platform at 2nd Avenue, you see the wildest things! I never know what to expect people go all out for the ride. #trains #photography
An old, faded sign of rules on the NYC subway. Seen on a porthole window the text is barely legible, "OBEY THE LAW DO NOT SMOKE or carry a lighted cigarette pipe or cigar on any station train trolley or bus. SPITTING OR THROWING papers or other litter on car or station floors is. Violation of sanitary code
An original sign that seemingly has been left untouched on the Holiday Nostalgia Train. This car was in service until the late 70's, therefore I imagine this sign is from around that time as well. More photos to come! #trains #photography
An advertisement from the holiday nostalgia train, formatted as "The Subway Sun". The main text reads "Normandy? No! Central Park! Go Subway" overlayed over a photo of the Central Park pond
Wanted to post my favorite vintage subway ad that I saw last week. I'd never seen this one before, and I think we should bring it back for other parts of the city!
96th street bound holiday nostalgia train using a token as a route icon
The newly made signage outside the holiday nostalgia train marking it as a train going from 96th st-2nd Ave to Houston-2nd Ave
This year, the MTA finally modernized its communications. Replacing signs to clearly show the route of the nostalgia train as well as tracking the train through the network!
A red and silver M8 exiting a tunnel into East Harlem. Seen through the fence on the side of park Avenue, the train passes on the leftmost track towards Connecticut
Quick little birthday post, trying to get more active again on here! But here's an M8 emerging from the Park Avenue tunnel while I take more photos! #trains #photography
The view from 122nd street, as a 1 train descends into the tunnel beneath Broadway. A large group of bikes and pedestrians are on the street, with cones separating directions.
Yesterday was Summerstreets and I ended up walking the length of the upper Manhattan portion including this view of the 1 train! My 8 mile walk was incredible, seeing a world where we prioritized people over cars The streets were quieter safer and created incredible spaces for community #photography
"I’ve spent a lot of time on trains that were retired long before I was born, but this is the only event where I can experience my own lived era of train nostalgia." - @transit-scapes.bsky.social nygroove.nyc/transit-muse...
Very excited to announce my first photo essay! I had so many great photos and experiences from the Parade of Trains earlier in the month and I'm excited to share them with you all! Thanks to @nygroove.nyc for the opportunity to share this!

I love the little side exit on the Pt Washington side that more or less leaves you in Nassau County!
A dark red/brown wooden exterior of the BU Gate car traveling through Sheepshead Bay. The train is full of people with colorful shirts, with wide windows. "Brooklyn rapid transit" is painted on with gold text on the top of the car
My favorite trainset from the parade of trains. The BU Gate cars, built between 1903-1907. These cars are 120 years old and still running today! Being on a train this old is one of the most surreal experiences you can have riding the MTA #trains #photography
A brown steel riveted 1916 BMT standard car with a person looking out the window towards the camera on the left hand side as the train pulls into the platform besides the yellow tactile strip
A 1916 BMT Standard subway car pulling with people really enjoying the view out of the window! #trains #photography
I will be posting a LOT, I've got at least 100 photos I liked from this weekend so it'll trickle out over time. Stay tuned!
A ribbed exterior of an R32 car, on the left center are 3 rollsigns saying "57th st" "Brighton beach" and Q | Broadway express. Through a small window in the middle, two children sit on their knees looking out the window
Probably my one of my favorite photos I've ever taken! I love the texture of the R32, and was so glad to see its inclusion this weekend! HUGE thanks to @nytransitmuseum.bsky.social, this was my favorite event they've put on to date! #trains #photography
An R11/34 S special train arriving at Kings Highway alongside an R46 Q, and a photo line of fanatics capturing its arrival
First (of many) photo from today's Parade of Trains. The train pictured here is an R11/34 train built around 1949. This is one of the newer trains running, alongside a regular R46 Q which was built between 1975-78. While both are old, only one is considered nostalgic! #trains #photography
A 7 train passing into Queensboro Plaza on the upper level. With layers of the car lanes on the Queensboro on the left, the pedestrian walkway leading to the street in the middle and on the top side is the 7 train and a station house
Some layered perspective on the new Queensboro Bridge walkway! #trains #photography
A view of the platforms on an angle from Hoboken station light peeks in through the window on the empty tracks in a seemingly infinite feeling
It's so eerie seeing such a busy terminal this empty. Normally, these tracks are full of trains coming in and out but seeing it all sealed off it was surreal.
A wide shot of an empty Hoboken station platform. Tracks sit empty and in the deep background there are several trains parked awaiting service
Traveled out to Hoboken on the last day of the NJT strike. Been a tough year for Hoboken passengers, first the PATH closure now this. But there is a return to normal as these photos show. #trains #photography
A wide shot of Broadway, with a brick tenement on either side of the frame. The 1 train stops at 215th street in the center of the frame, with large towers in the Bronx background
Inwood is such a cool, layered area. I think there's very few times on the street when you can be this far up above the elevated subway! The 215th street stairs give a great view of the 1 train stop. #trains #photography
2 subway trains laying over at Coney Island, seen from an overhead perspective. With a skyline view of the Brooklyn area behind
Haven't been posting a lot lately, very busy but here's a cool shot of what you can see from the top of Stilwell Avenue! If you look closely, you can even see the skyline! #trains #photography
The green 1917 low V train is on the left hand side, under the canopy of the 161 street station Yankee fans in white pinstriped jerseys, like #2 are walking out of the train
Another opening day photo, this time of the crowds filing out of the 1917 Low-V's. The Yankees fans always stand out amongst the crowd! #trains #photography
A blue "Redbird" style train signed as the green 4 to Utica Avenue arriving at Yankee stadium station, with the white stadium in the background
I got to hang out around Yankee Stadium today, rode the Low-V's but also stayed to see the train of many colors pull in! Only in New York can you get a view of a nearly 65 year old train running past a massive, modern MLB stadium with hundreds of fans cheering it on. #trains #photography
An M train passes between two apartment buildings past Forest Avenue in ridgewood
This is a unique perspective of the M train tracks crossing off road. Normally, elevated tracks follow the path of other roads in the area but here in Ridgewood, you can see how the train tracks split up the homes in the neighborhood. #trains #photography
A metro north M7 train arrived at crestwood. A spiked brown fence frames the blue and white train, an empty platform with a green shelter to its left and in the far background Spanish style buildings surround the station
Went up to Bronxville yesterday, I've got a bunch of photos of the amazing 1916 station house, but I really like this photo of a train arriving at the station from the quite large parking lot. #trains #photography
An overhead shot of an R46 Q train departing the large white solar panel roofed Stilwell Avenue station. A white structure made up of two right triangles frames the top of the train as it pulls away from frame out towards the boardwalk
Got to spend a cold morning at Coney Island, and captured this Q train departing the station. I love the way the sun pokes through the solar paneled roof, makes for some cool shadows! #trains #photography
My new story is up! It's a really interesting and unique bus route!
A piece of construction equipment with an American flag and "made in USA" text in front of an NJT arrow with 3 orange, purple and blue disco stripes beside an American flag
Some construction beside the Arrows at Hoboken! I'm very glad that the PATH station is open again, makes this very pleasant terminal far less of an ordeal to get to! (though PATH did a great job with alternatives when they were running) #trains #photography
On the left side, the Riverdale station with its overpass rises in shadows. A yellow light sunset illuminates trees, the George Washington bridge and the New York/New Jersey skyline in the background of the Hudson River r
Apologies for the lack of posting, been very busy. But I wanted to post this photo from the tiny NYC park, only accessible from the inbound platform at Riverdale! #trains #photography
A small garage and modern two floor house in front of the elevated Forest Avenue station in Queens. A standard elevated island platform but it does not have a street running below the station
Forest Ave is a weird stop. Instead of being below a street, you can see it hangs over in somewhat of an awkward way over other homes. It has an exit on to a busy street, but as a result of the stations design it stacks passengers by the street, making the rest of it feel emptier #photography
The entrance of Hunterspoint Avenue station, with all the signage vandalized including fare information and subway connections. The entrance has a small Hunterspoint Avenue sign faded from some graffiti, with a blue covered stairwell leading down to the platform from a treeless sidewalk
I wonder if people can fully understand what this station is, or what trains stop here. The entrance is very nondescript, and all the signage is vandalized! I imagine only people in the know would ever encounter this. #trains #photography
